  • Go Karting Tips

    Hey everyone!

Thought I'd put this one out there, see if anyone had any advice for me!

I'm going Go Karting with work in the not too distant future, and I was fishing for tips! We go fairly regularly and I'm consistently mediocre! It's a 30 second lap and I'm always 1.5-2s slower then the fastest guy there!

I'm one of the slimmest ones there so it's not a weight thing! Any tips that anyone here has found success with etc would be welcomed! Do I floor it round all the corners squealing tyres, or slow in fast out through the corners, both techniques I seem to have no luck with(Or maybe I'm doing them wrong?!)!

    HELP!!!!

    Thanks :-)

Ive only been the once, loved it but ending up with loads of bruises on the hips, where your rattling around in the seat. I too tried different lines thro the corners, but still ended up in the bottom third I was expecting to do quite well as i ride bikes quickly, and drive a Cooper S which is just a big go-kart - i think you should watch the people on before you and choose the quickest kart - as ime sure thery are not exactly in the same state of tune (good excuse )

Ouch, thats quite a bit of difference. Slow in fast out does apply, but its all relative. You can't just boot it out of a corner so a prime concern is not scrubbing off too much speed in most corners, carry as much speed through as possible without losing it as without gears it takes time to build up again. DONT late brake, you'll only lose ground.

Spend your practice laps finding the limit on each corner if you have time. Particularly the corner/s that are before straight/flat out sections, get those right and your speed down the straight will be correspondingly faster.

In fact on most go-kart circuits most corners can be taken at or not far off flat out, with usually one hairpin per lap. Oh yes and dont ride the throttle at the same time as the brake, you'll get black flagged for that!
