    on the subject of "is every pattern solvable?" freecell is the ultimate! every one is ... instead of selecting random patterns, I started at 1,2,3 ... got up to a few thousand before I gave up but did solve every one ...

    but certainly "catch the cat" is a good game ... I wonder if there's a version where you can define your own strategy for the cat ...

    the kitty starts from the centre all the time, so there's no closest boundary, only the most "open" boundary... I'm trying to get a game without anything on it at all, but looks it doesn't generate such tiles... but yeah, the kitty is quite stupid and easy to fool... so maybe this particular game you can solve every pattern, but I wonder if they use the same concept with a better AI, if they would be able to make it impossible to solve, anyway, what am i doing thinking over a silly game...
