ivory coast springs into my mind... but given their group, its unlikely (but i would like to think of it like the snooker world champs, if u beat ronnie, u got every chance of winning the tournament)

i would support the underdog teams.
it would really do wonders for south africa and the entire continent if a team from the region were to win. imagine the political and economic progress.
Very fair take on the situation mate.
I had hoped for the African progress you mentioned which could have possibly come from Ivory Coast
had Drogba not had his arm chewed up by an Akita... Messi could come through if he doesn't suffer a contagious
Maradona Meltdown... ahhhhhh BRAZIL.... yes... too early for me to predict but I stay very tuned!
For me ... better than the Olympics!

I' m a little surprised The Netherlands are in the category 'others'.
In my opinion they are stronger than Italy and England. A possible final against Brazil is possible. But still... Spain is the team to beat.
I saw that going differently in my mind

Just got a feeling Argentina will come good and will beat England in the final. The thought of the fat cheating druggie celebrating at our expense after the final is too bad to think about.

Had to turn the sound down on the South Africa v Mexico game today. The noise from those infernal trumpet things they blow was horrible!

Yeah indeed quite irritating, anyway just saw France - Uruguay 0 0 and the French team was bad. Ribery isn't Zidane....I don't expect them to last long.

The only chance England had of winning the world cup was if they had their two world class players in ...Becks/Owen...,without those two the team lacks any sort of plan, I think Capello has took the team back years......(was a better team under the much maligned Swen) Tho he seems to be a well lucky manager....so who knows ?
Deary me this made me laugh. Owen and Beckham world class? Are you stuck in the year 2000?

We have a very easy draw through to the semi finals compared to previous years and the problem for Spain is they will meet either Brazil, Portugal, Cote D'Ivoire or Korea DPR in the last 16 where they could come unstuck.

Do Clive and Boris STILL play for England!?!?

Brasil has a history of raising the bar as need be which could fuel the
                    best games of the WC.

Germany could be waiting in the quarter final and that is never very easy.
Brazil in the semi's and Argentina (or who knows Holland) in the final.

But for some reason the match against the USA today could more difficult than generally expected.

Germany could be second round if one of us don't top our groups. I think England will draw today or just edge it as USA are pretty decent team, the only team to beat Spain since 2006 aswell.

                            You have my sympathy, coveg.
Last night, I even stopped watching the game.

Me thinks that Ossie Adiles and Bert Trautmann will turn out for England, so they should be ok!

They must have the best attacking 4 in the world with Torres, Villa, Xavi and Fabregas and a solid defence as well. Holland as superb 4 as well with Van Persie, Robben, Van der Vaart en Sneyder but the problem is that it is nearly impossible to let them play at the same time as Holland is very vulnerable in defence and an extra defender/midfielder is needed.
