Q: If England loses to the USA...
will the English go back to wearing blue jerseys and the Americans red and white?

Quite disappointing football from England. Lampard AND Gerrard together in midfield doesn't work it seems, I would prefer to play with Gerrard and no Lampard at all. Why is Crouch in that selection ? Is he better than Walcott ...
But the US played well with Onyewu being outstanding. Any reason why it wasn't broadcasted on BBC ???
I saw that going differently in my mind

Most of the English passing was up to their very high standard. They managed to find a black shirted player for about 90% of the time. I am not sure if they knew their team mates were wearing white.

Crouch is a striker whereas Walcott is a winger but he is better, although I'd prefer Walcott to SWP. ITV have the rights to the first two games then BBC have the next two. After that they both broadcast the games.

The Gerrmans did play like a team tonight. If only England could pass to each other, as they did. Pity England if they have to play Germany.
            Germany 4 Australia 0.
I missed the last half hour - fell asleep.

Germans playing well indeed...today Holland won but their level will have to improve if they want to go very far in this tournament. Still Spain and Brazil to play their 1st match but so far the matches were very average.
I also think that if capello doesn't resolve the problem in the centre of his defence big trouble is on its way. Terry - King or Terry - Carragher isn't the solution to Ferdinand's absence it seems.

So far only Germany has delivered. Without the Danish blackout the Netherlands would've been in trouble much like England. Also the Italians didn't impress me much today. Brazil, Portugal and Spain still to watch, of course.

Having said that the group stage isn't important as long as one gets through. Remember Netherlands 2008: The best team in the groups getting kicked out by the Russians in the first ko round

Apart from the terrifying noice of the vovozelas an interesting tournament so far:snooker:

Saying this I don't want to **** off anyone who wants Germany to win as well as anyone in England who wants his team to win etc.
I'll watch the World Cup though, but I just hope to see some good soccer. Bought a Ghana jersey (wanted to get a england or northkorean one but there were none) and just hope to annoy as much intolerant people as I can.
And another reason I wouldn't want to see the german squad winning anything: Most players are from Bayern Munich. I'm not a fan of Bayern Munich, so why should I want to see them win?

Aus Deutschland. But I was born there accidentally, I don't see any sense in just blindly praising men who accidentally have the same nationality. Plus there is no real reason to favor Germany - "our" Snooker players are bad :snooker:
Kokokol, I for one dislike nationalism as much as you do but maybe we shouldn't go to the exactly opposite extreme either. (You know the darn extremes have the bad habit of coming so very close together! BTW, I don't think there is such a thing called 'good nationalism' especially now when political borders tend to dissolve! ) Besides, if you try to annoy intolerant people by becoming intolerant, you only risk to look more and more like them which I'm sure is exactly the thing you don't want to happen!

What if we are not born German/French/English etc by mere accident? What if we are born where we are born because we are supposed to learn something about ourselves or others or other things?.... Just wondering, you know...

I think this year's winners will be either Spain or Germany. Just can't seem to make up my mind.... lol

Good post, Mignon. Completely agree with you. We have no say in where we are born.
It amazes me to hear people say they are proud to be, whatever it is.

Anyway I can see no reson or harm why someone shouldn't support his own country above another country. Nationalism goes much farther than cheering for your own country and is put here far out of proportion.

Well, Wim, I could make a very nice pirouette here and reply that we’re not putting it out of proportion since we are talking about it. That means it’s NOT one of those really sensitive issues about which people do not discuss.

This is getting a little too phylosophical for me I guess.

Anyway, Portugal and Brazil didn't play well but at least Brazil won. The big favorite for this world cup Spain is playing tomorrow,so far only Germany was convincing till now....

Yes, Brazil won, but N Korea gave them a good game. They put more into their game than England did theirs the other day.
