  • Oh, and the last few films I watched are:

Horsey, a Canadian film not unlike Trainspotting.
Legend of the Red Dragon, Chinese martial arts flick with Jet Li.
Audition, Japanese romantic drama with a twist.
House of Flying Daggers, Chinese martial arts flick with Zhang Ziyi.

    • I finally saw ‘The Name of the Rose’. I’ll have to get that book now, especially as I am reading Eco’s last novel at the moment.Sean Connery grand! What struck me though, was the outrageous amassment of 'pot-ugly' men in this film. Can you imagine that auditioning?

The book is very good At least I liked it a bit better than the film, but I read it before I saw the film.

Baudolino was in 2000, Eco had another book published after 2004, La misteriosa flama della regina Loana (The mysterious flame of princess Loana). I haven't read that one yet...
The name of the rose made a pretty good film though. As for the auditioning Snookersfun said... well the actors didn't look like that when they went for it, did they? (Ok except for Ron Perlman maybe... )

              • Yes, that is the one, Nina. Can't say I'm really getting into it (I think you would have to be Italian or very interested in Italian history, as there is a lot of that), I did like the beginning though and hoping for it to wind up to a good ending.
...and I am not sure about those actors, some (lots) of those faces... pretty scary stuff- looked all natural!

                    • The Day after tomorrow! Really good effects
You play a long slow deadweight red to a corner pocket. As it approaches the pocket, a kamikaze woodlouse crawls out from under the cushion and makes its way across the table, conflicting with the path of the red precisely at the point the red gets there. The red, needless to say, veers off course, and the future of the woodlouse is uncertain. - The Statman

                      • Probably been said here already but went to see Blood Diamond and really enjoyed it. It's long but a great story with some great acting (even if Di Caprio's South African accident was a little dodgy!)

LOL! Well,he was doing the best he could.

But the film does bring up a very important issue IMO.
                          And great acting too.
