I've heard about the first one...sounds a bit confusing though...

Do you get ARD via satellite? They've got a really good programme called "Druckfrisch".

If u wanna know, the author is Lilian Jackson Brown, and she loves cats.
It's series of books about journalist Kviller, who soon likes cats, and then see crimes, and try to solve them. And cat helps him! And then he gets a 'girlsfriend' to his cat, and all starts to be more ineteresting.
I forget the name of first book of series, but I will say soon

I am quite excited, as I have preordered the new Harry Potter in my bookstore and also picked up several more interesting sounding books:

the 'newest' Tolkien (yes he is dead, but that doesn't prevent him from publishing new material): The Children of Hurin

                Lisa Armstrong: Deja View
Kim Edwards: The Memory Keeper's Daughter

shall retreat to the garden now, and finish my Terry Pratchett (Thud) first though...

Ah good book! Not quite as good as Night Watch or Guards! Guards! But a good read nontheless, how far have you got?

Not a big fan of Harry Potter, but the new Tolkein sounds good....

p.247 Short after Vimes played that game of Thud with that dwarf in prison(who died during it). Yes, not a bad read!

The last book I've read was Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. - Not very exciting, but as I now know, Romeo died first.

My current book is Kinder der Genies (Children of the geniuses) by Friedrich Weissensteiner. - Interesting stuff about August von Goethe, Siegfried Wagner, Anna Freud, Erika & Klaus Mann and Anna Mahler.

The best book I ever read is Thomas Mann's Magic Mountain, I've read it twice and I'm sure a third time will come.

Think its time to revive this one.

Ah, I am on a reading roll as well. What I would recommend is "In cold blood" by Truman Capote. Its remarkable how my opinion changed towards the leading characters in the book, from start till the end. Gripping stuff! Read it twice.

Furthermore, Gun for Sale, Graham Greene. One of his less known novels, but real thriller stuff.

Just finished Under The Duvet, Marian Keyes and next one will be "Husbands" by Parks.

Well done Paul - I'd forgotten this thread.
I'm in a Reading Group which is good as it makes me read books I normally wouldn't choose. The last few months we've read:

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, and we went to see the film on Friday, really enjoyed the book and film which is unusual!

We need to talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver.

Q and A by Vikas Swarup.

All very good books which make you think.

Funny you mention those 2 books as another member has recommended both titles to me. Apart from this positive stimulant given to me we also own a brand new library in the centre. which is a sightseeing attraction in itself. So double pleasure there!

I just finished "A Place Called Here" by Cecilia Ahern. "The Chemistry of Death" by Simon Beckett and "A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian" by Marina Lewycka are also among my favourites. Right now I read "Black Dog" by Stephen Booth. Oh, I forgot to mention "Asian Cuisine" which I got for christmas
