@ Hegeland, no, you are not alone. I made a tour through Lapland in July, with a group. We saw all the places you mentioned and a lot more (Finland, Sweden, Norway).
It was unbelievably beautiful. But it was July, not October/November.
hege, believe me, I would love tour through Scandinavia, but it will take a lot more time than I have available now. but you gave me an idea though. I can always get away from civilisation in the country house. So quiet and peaceful. Away from the roads and people. Everything like 100 years ago
I think its a bit shortsighted to say Spain and Greece are for the millions. The millions only visit the costas in Spain. Thats around 10% of the country. I have been to the interior and you will be surprised the treasures and wonderful landscapes you will find there. Luckily enough, the masses dont know about it!
- Catalunya, north of gerona (but the weather is risky that time of the year)
- Cantabria, northwest of spain (same story for the weather)
- andalucia, Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada Alhambra (very touristic, but quieter in the autumn
Personally I think most people choose too holidays that are too mainstream for my taste. Spain, Greece, everyone's done that! I think one should more often dare to do something different, go off the beaten track a little. Remember, it doesn't have to be flashy, expensive or exhausting in order to be memorable.
My point is: do something different! Whats the meaning of repeating the things millions of other tourists have done before? Spend two weeks alone on a lighthouse on a deserted island! (I've done that, and it was one of the most memorable holidays I've ever had) Rent a car and drive to the north of scandinavia! Visit places like Rovaniemi or Kirkenes! Go see people in places where the charter tours never go!
You don't have that many vacaions in your life. Make sure you get the most out of them.
Maybe I'm alone in this opinion?
To begin with, it appears that the South European countries such as Spain and Greece have sth to offer that others don't - don't tell me it never occurred to you that the millions of people who visit them do it cause they heard sb they know say they'd had a fantastic time there...
Secondly, a stupid Q: Is Rovaniemi the new "in" destination for the Greeks only?? I mean, everybody is going there these days, it's annoying!
I also got to wonder why spending a week at a lighthouse should be anyone's ideal of a holiday... The isolation? The location (by the sea)? I can promise you that can be achieved in many other places... Unless the attraction is you can play it cool afterwards, like "I've done sth none of my friends has".
I've written too much already. I have to admit this is partly because I'm sensitive when it comes to my country but also because I strongly disagree - primarily for that. If I am harsh, I apologise in advance.
I went to Portugal 2 years ago, was very nice, so that's where I'll recommend.
You play a long slow deadweight red to a corner pocket. As it approaches the pocket, a kamikaze woodlouse crawls out from under the cushion and makes its way across the table, conflicting with the path of the red precisely at the point the red gets there. The red, needless to say, veers off course, and the future of the woodlouse is uncertain. - The Statman
