Uk 8 ball uses a shot clock in all world rules competions!
You get 1min to take your shot! We use the rule in inter league (which is town teams) and I've never seen a time foul called, the slow players have to speed up!
It works but alot of people don't like it!

Maybe it would be nice if time could be rather accumulated. Probably way too difficult to implement though. That way it would be rather an average shot time (which could be even shorter than 25 seconds), but for every fast shot one could 'bank' the time left and use it up for difficult shots.

something similar to chess, I see. could be interesting! and there is also quick chess, when the cumulative time is shorter, so in snooker you could also have 'quick' tournaments as well as 'long' ones.

I like the two-shot idea perhaps use it as another premier league sort of thing and see how it works.

I think a shot clock would work well in a tennis event with really short breaks just to see what would happen

I knew I could rely on you, Robertson to rule. You know it makes sense, the 2 shot option. I am going to forward it to the board. (and they will bin it)

On reading my new snooker scene someone sent in a letter suggesting using ball in hand instead of the miss rule any thoughts?

too easy in most cases, and in some others a player could just not try, knowing that ball in hand for their opponent isnt getting them much advantage
