what specifically do you find them useful for?

any useful hints for a first time buyer of one?

I got an Ericsson P900. I find it very useful to have both your phone and your calendar in the same device.

One thing that is important to think about is battery time and quality of the screeen. And also don't forget to buy a screenshield as soon as possible. Otherwise, you'll get a damaged screen after only a few weeks and that's not very funny. I'd say WriteShield is the best one http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main~un...riteshield.htm

PDA, statman, it's in the subject. :-)

I have a regular cellphone. It's also got my calendar in it. So I personally have no real need for a PDA.

It's one of those mini computers, like a palmtop. The acronym means Personal Digital Assistant. Some of them come with cellphone functionality, like the Nokia Communicator.

I work for a mobile company and have found the best PDA's to be made by HTC with the TyTN being the most advanced unit. Quality gear.

I used to use an iPac from hp.

It had the windows os on it, so I could build and read Word, Excel, Outlook and use Windows Media Player. I couldn't browse the web, otherwise I would probably still use it.

I was looking for a phone, having also a MP3 player (at least 5gb) and data / calendar /outlook storage on it. Any recommendations?

To turn this thread into something snooker related, I use an HTC Diamond and have written software using the .Net Compact Framework to enable me to enter fixture bookings and results and upload them to a website for access by all members of our league.

I find it extremely convenient being able to watch a league match and instantly upload the result and updated league table to our website using my PDA. Couldn't get by without it now.
