  • prizefighting (or even prizefightingjob) probably not in the dictionary, are they?

    Comment

    • I'm not talking about random websites. There's major discussion about non-hijackable planes being the solution for the terrorist problem in the world today. Various sites mention the term, so I'm going to argue for its acceptance thusly. ;-)

And to be more precise, there's 680 unique search results for it. Among which are reliable sites like techworld, netscape.com, defensenews.com, iee.org, to name only a few.

          • Under the original rules, only one point needed to be awarded, but I would like to congratulate and reward Ginger_Freak, elvaago and snookersfun for each submitting entries of 5-Strings (and there was a little confusion initially over which words should be allowed and hence who had the first valid 5-String). So I shall award them each a festive point. Half a point too to The Statman, for his festive 4-Strings!

(Shame rambon was not so generous with the points for his A to Z round, the one before. I might have been out of the bottom three! Hehe )

SO HERE IS THE SCOREBOARD AFTER ROUND 28

            Pos. . . . . . . . Points . . . . . . Person
            1 . . . . . . . . . . . 6½ . . . . . elvaago

            10 . . . . . . . . . . 1 . . . . . . . Ginger_Freak

Special congratulations to Ginger_Freak for entering the scoreboards, at almost the same time, both on this thread and on the Puzzles with numbers and things sister thread.

              • ROUND TWENTY-NINE

On the same subject, can anyone find the name of a UK town, which has the same quality as those in the answer to round 28 – i.e. 5 consecutive letters of the alphabet appearing, not necessarily adjacent in the word, but in the correct order?

                • I can only think of a 4-string at the moment - Cinderford

                  • Well, I cheated and used a computer. I've only looked at the "A"s so far but have Aberchalder and Aberchirder.

                        • Congrats davis greatest. I have heard of Aberchirder, so I will let that pass in this season of goodwill, though I am not sure it fulfils the 'town' criterion.

                          ROUND THIRTY

In which ten-letter word are the first five letters an anagram of the last five?

(In case there is such a word, they must NOT be a simple repetition in the same order, such as pompom or murmur.)

Unhyphenated, no apostrophes, not requiring a capital letter, please.
