The plural of practice in this sense is also practice (ie no s) although practices could probably just about be accepted.

well, every word in that sentence finishes with the letter that the word in front of it starts with. Plus it looks rather symmetric to have a 'couple of each', so while 'help' was a first answer the couple of words looks rather superior.
How do you get from perseverance to also, or also to skill?
