It is very difficult when setting these questions to ensure that no other plausible answer can be found - the only thing that I made sure of this time was that I did not choose a 9-letter word, so that snookersfun could not possibly come up with ROBERTSON - and indeed KNOWLES would perhaps be a viable alternative. However, it is not the answer I am looking for.
(While "kelp" is certainly an English word, I would not consider it common enough to be used here - I tried to choose words that even the non-English natives among us will very likely know.)
So, keep looking please.
