Far better than Robertson! Congratulations, snookersfun! That is the correct answer!

    • ROUND FORTY SIX (still not sure if round 44 is still open)

Find the missing first letters of these common English words. Then re-arrange the letters you find to make a snooker-related word.

      -ALT
      -OOSE
      -ELP
      -DD
      -AR
      -END
      -ELLY

        • Actually, one of the words wasn't very common at all - sorry! So I have now edited it above!

For those who saw the first version, seeing which one changed may help!

                • Another worthy attempt!

It is very difficult when setting these questions to ensure that no other plausible answer can be found - the only thing that I made sure of this time was that I did not choose a 9-letter word, so that snookersfun could not possibly come up with ROBERTSON - and indeed KNOWLES would perhaps be a viable alternative. However, it is not the answer I am looking for.

(While "kelp" is certainly an English word, I would not consider it common enough to be used here - I tried to choose words that even the non-English natives among us will very likely know.)

                  So, keep looking please.

Not a player. OK, here is (an anagram of) a clue:

                            Buggered by a welly? Ow.

Ironically on a wet day at the seaside, you could end up with kelp in your welly I guess.

For those that don't know kelp is a sort of seaweed.

Which reminds me of a joke:

"Why did the lobster go pink?"
                            " Because the sea weed"

                            It's been a long day
