You play a long slow deadweight red to a corner pocket. As it approaches the pocket, a kamikaze woodlouse crawls out from under the cushion and makes its way across the table, conflicting with the path of the red precisely at the point the red gets there. The red, needless to say, veers off course, and the future of the woodlouse is uncertain. - The Statman

The current debacle in Australia is clearly an unfair reflection on the state of english cricket. Michael Vaughan (captain marvel) was injured and has been unable to play. Simon Jones (who caused the Australian batsmen the most problems last summer) was also injured and unable to play. Marcus Trescothick, one of our most experienced batsmen was also unable to play.
The management have also made some woeful decisions and with the benefit of hindsight would probably have changed the following: The captaincy should have gone to Strauss and not Flintoff, being a key bowler, slip fielder and destructive batsman was even too much for Freddie. Finally Chris Read and Monty Panesar should have started the series over Geraint Jones and Ashley Giles.
Without all of the above problems, things may have been just a bit difficult. But obviously as an englishman I am not one to make excuses !!!"And slowly and surely they drew their plans against us"

Last summer's win was all about 11 first choice players being available and all 11 at some stage during the series putting in a great performance. We know how good Australia are and you just can't afford to be 3 key players down which we have been.
We are normally unlucky against Aus, who can forget the 2001 series when Thorpe, Hussain and vaughan were out injured, we had the heart ripped out of our middle order.
When the luck goes for you, you have to cash in, as we did last year."And slowly and surely they drew their plans against us"

I think it was all over a couple of weeks ago! BTW, I watched some of the live cricket 10 days ago in York, the 3rd test. It has been years ago I watched it, as BBC has lost rights to broadcast live cricket. I did not miss much all those years! (from an England point of view)

And now something completely different. I read David Beckham is still considering to sign another contract for Real Madrid till 2010. Why should he do that ? He is not guaranteed to play much there. And he doesn't need the money, does he. So why not come back to England and play for...Chelsea ??I saw that going differently in my mind
