  • Compress snooker videos (and other)

I've used Adobe Premiere to cut out commercials and stuff on my recorded snooker videos. But I can't compress it very good. Either it's 2 GB per 45 mins or 800 MB with lousy quality.

Which progamme should I use to get a decent compression? I'd like to have a 45 min clip down to 600-700 MB without losing any real picture quality.

I use DivX http://www.divx.com, but it's not free.

That i've been wondering it for a while, but the videos I've download is in divx and it's about 100 MB per 10 min, with pretty good quality

I haven't compressed video files myself, but from the free programs for that I've heard many good things about Virtualdub http://www.virtualdub.org/

I have downloaded nero 7 on bitloard. its having a brilliant editing facility. Transferred snooker and other video footage to double layer dvd. Available on opus.de. 1.50 euro a piece!

Thank you all! I'm no big fan of Nero software, so I'm testing DivX. It's rendering right now, but it takes quite some time before it's done. Looks good so far though.

If everything works out well, I'll have some videos ready for download in the next few weeks (if there's any interest, that is).

If its in dvd format mate you should use auto gordian knot to convert to xvid, its by far and away the best and easiest method.

Agreed, I'm using AutoGK as we speak to compress the Doha final. Xvid at 40% quality, 64kbit CBR mp3 audio, 720px fixed width suits my tastes for snooker. That's about 3.5mb per minute.

I finished "Hall of Frame -Tribute to Paul Hunter" tonight. 450 MB, 45 mins. Pic quality just as good as the original. I'm doing the GP final over night, 3hrs 45 mins, commercials edited out , I guess it will land on about 1,5-2 GB. I find it to be very good for my needs, it's playable in my Kiss DP device which was really the most important criteria.

3.5mb per minute sounds a bit much? Though I'm no expert by any means.

But I'd love to get my hands on the Doha Final!

3.5mb/min is good enough for my purposes, any more than that and I'd have serious problems finding somewhere to store it all . I do keep all my original DVDs as well so I have them to fall back on if I ever need a higher quality copy.

You're welcome to the Doha final, I'll see if I can find somewhere to upload it in the morning (still 3.5 hours processing time left).

Yes. I'll cut out commercials and compress it within the next week. I can put it up on Billiards Tracker if you like? Or someplace else?
