  • Shy members?

I've noticed we have quite a lot of members who never write anything. I would love to see them contributing with posts too.

I know PaulTheSoave likes to play the bully but you shouldn't be afraid of him, he's quite harmless really.

So, come on and make a post, you too. The more, the merrier!

Your approach is wrong. Never force people doing things! It puts them off!

You have a point there Paul I must admit. But it would be nice to talk with them.

True. The more the merrier. I have seen quite a large contingent being logged in, but not posting. Maybe they just like reading.

well it not about being shy. Its more about giving yoruself some time to post. I was busy lately with finishing the last things and then graduate, so I didn't gave myself much time to post and then reading a bit is easier.

When I joined it took me a while to get used to the appearance of the page and learn the details of posting (eg I had never used pager messages before).
Then I was a bit intimidated by the big number of posters (most of who knew their snooker when I'm far from an expert...) so I didn't want to post for over a month. Finally I got a message inviting me to post every time I logged in, which I found rather annoying to be honest (but that's just me).

What worked for me was seeing my friend post and become friendly with the other members. I thought it was brave of her so I held my breath and took the dive too - so now people wish I'd shut up already!!

                  Hi
i dont post that often and dont feel the need to, i enjoy reading what everyone has to say and i really enjoy having all the stats on hand. Its good to know what's going on in the snooker world, especially as the world snooker website is so slow on giving info on tickets and news.

Good response imo! You make it very clear that the regulars should not take snooker for granted and should welcome newcomers as well and explain the game if asked! Also your comment about posting everytime when you logged in makes sense!

Actually I like Greece a lot, but its a bit far away. I have been their twice. Corfu and The Pelopenessos!

                      Thanks Paul.
What I wrote does not imply that every newcomer is as out of touch as I was (and still am on occasion) and needs to have things explained, this however is a possibility that should be kept in mind.
As for the message, I just didn't find it to work - in fact I know of at least two people who must be getting it every time they log in too, but still don't post (one because of being too shy and the other because of not being so interested really). My point is, what I think can work is the regular members being open and friendly.

As for visiting Greece, I find a lot of people have after all, which is very exciting. I have a lot of travelling to do to return the favours...

This thread reminds me of a guy who sells Big Issue's outside my local shopping centre............

I dunno if i can count myself among the shy members , tho i am a shy person usually.
I have never had problems getting used with the forum , appearance and all, i've been on a few forums , all are different so i learned pretty fast how to post , tho i can't say i knew how to use all the things on the forum , the pager could be a good example. I got used to it in time tho.
As well as Nina said i was intimidated also by the big number of posters, i found it pretty difficult "to break into" the gang , everybody seems to know everybody on here , it is a lil hard when you feel like an outsider. That not to mention that i am far from being a snooker expert , and here are plenty of ppl who know lots of things about the sport ,sometimes is hard to have an opinion posted here considering my ignorance in certain fields . I am learning every day tho , so thanks to the knowledgeable ppl for their great posts.
Btw Nina, i never got that message inviting me to post , or maybe i didn't notice it.
Hmm..i wonder who the brave friend is ?!

I generally post when I've got something relevant to say, or irreverent when I see that there's a little joke to be made.

I'm certainly not shy as can be seen by my photo... anyone spot which one is me?
