  • Darts topic. BDO, dead and buried?

After the PDC tournament I rank the BDO as the second league. I heard today from a collegue there will be a press conference before the start of the Lakeside tournee, more players going to The PDC. Amongst them could be the fluke world champion Jelle Klaassen and Mervin King. Players are dissatisfied not only with the prize money but as well with seedings in the main tournament. They are very cross Andy Fordham entering the BDO event, ranked at number 444!! Pathetic

Without doubt it is not dead, but currently dying a very slow and painful death. Ever since I got sky in 2001 (the company that shows the PDC) I have been hooked on Darts. All the big names and characters were there, and while the BDO had a couple of names, I never watched it. This year, I am contemplating watching the BDO, but maybe only the semis and the final. When Barneveld moved that was the start of the end. If Klassen wins again this year, barry hearn will no doubt tempt him away, as that chap has endless pockets.

But its still popular to watch the BDO. If you've not got Sky, you don't know what you missing, and settle for the "B" show. One tournament of PDC and you're converted. people will still watch BDO, they just don't know what else is out there.

Barneveld v Taylor or, King v Hankey-you decide, its a tough choice

Seriously, give it till the BBC's contract runs out on the BDo and that will be that.

Well said. The majority over here thought the BDO was the best darts until they started showing The PDC tournament when John Part played Taylor in the final. The only character left on the BDO is Bobby "The Diamond Geezer" George and hes not even playing. Going on how great he was but he never won it, the dipstick! Its still popular in a way as tickets are sold out for all days since the 16th of november. The crowds at the PDC seem to be a bit more vulgar than at the Lakeside, booing and whistling!

The BDO has done down the drain, I agree. Averages of over 32 are a rare exception there. King and Hankey are their best, just give it up guys and play real darts. :-)

Its a shame that darts got split into two organisations. The Embassy was always a great event but to compete with the best now, you need to be with the PDC.

The BDO event can still be interesting to watch as there's some good players in it but eventually, the best of the BDO will move to the PDC to prove themselves against the very best.

When the PDC was formed, 25 of the top 32 of the BDO changed over. So it's easy to see where the best players went.

Funnily enough I have been thinking about this-and it could happen. Barry Hearn effectively made the PDC and brough the players over. Now, for those that don't know, he is the same diamond geezer that runs the Premier League Snooker, again through his company Matchroom Sport. This man is loaded, and is also Steve davis's agent-so, if he felt like it he could move all the top snooker player over to his "new" tour. It seems unlikely, but having only been a small child when the darts thing happened, I'm sure people thought that unlikely. I'll start a new poll in "The Snooker Lounge" to discuss it.

I rarely watch darts and don't follow it, however one thing that I always find strange is that Colin Lloyd is number 1, yet doesn't seem to win anything (excuse me if I'm being really stupid and he has won alot :P )
You play a long slow deadweight red to a corner pocket. As it approaches the pocket, a kamikaze woodlouse crawls out from under the cushion and makes its way across the table, conflicting with the path of the red precisely at the point the red gets there. The red, needless to say, veers off course, and the future of the woodlouse is uncertain. - The Statman

Colin Lloyd is the Martin Adams in the PDC. Always bottling it when it goes for the big ones!

Colin Lloyd is WN1 simply because he plays in far more tournaments than Taylor, that and the fact that Taylor doesn't put quite as much effort in the those 'minor' tourneys that he does enter, as Mick McGowan showed earlier in the year.

I do hope that the spectacle Monday's final means that both organisations join together again, because, regardless of which is best, the game of Darts is suffering because of the split.

I find the BBC's darts so dull...typical BBC, trying to spice it up but failing miserably.

They've got an advert on TV at the moment showing all the 'characters' with some kind of dance music in the background, with the slogan "watch every dart on the BBC" or something like that!

                      And Tony Green commentating? Yawn.

Exactly right. The characters are Sidney Waddell, Phil Taylor, Wayne mardle, Manley, ronnie baxter.

Oh look, they're all in the PDC.

The Dutch channel got an advert Jelle Klaassen running through Amsterdam like Sylvester Stallone and playing the music from Rocky at the background.

                          Pathetic!
