  • Car tape

While having a bit of a tidy-up yesterday I unearthed two tapes which used to live in my car. I had assumed they were in the car when it was written off, but here they are.

My question is, which one would you request, or would you rather get a lift from someone else!

I appreciate that some of our younger colleagues might not have even heard of some of them!

According to the label, this is what is on them:

    TAPE 1
    Side A
1 The Way It Is Bruce Hornsby & The Range
2 Abracadabra The Steve Miller Band
3 To Be with You Mr Big
4 Don’t Stop Me Now Queen
5 Heard It from a Friend REO Speedwagon
    6 Golden Brown The Stranglers
7 Somewhere in My Heart Aztec Camera
8 Brown Eyed Girl Van Morrison
    Side B
1 You’re The Voice John Farnham
    2 Drive The Cars
3 Every Breath You Take The Police
4 Down Under Men At Work
    5 Take On Me a-ha
6 Dancing in the Moonlight Toploader
7 Wherever I Lay My Hat (That’s My Home) Paul Young
    8 More than Words Extreme

    TAPE 2
    Side A
    1 Losing My Religion REM
    2 2 Princes Spin Doctors
3 Wind of Change The Scorpions
    4 Everywhere Fleetwood Mac
    5 Lucky Man The Verve
    6 Sit Down James
7 I Want to Break Free Queen
    8 Don’t Speak No Doubt
    9 You Ten Sharp
10 Sleeping with the Light On Del Amitri
11 It’s Only Natural Crowded House
    Side B
1 Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me) Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel
2 Total Eclipse of the Heart Bonnie Tyler
3 I’ll Be There for You The Rembrandts
4 I’ll Be There for You Bon Jovi
    5 What’s Up 4 Non Blondes
6 Shattered Dreams Johnny Hates Jazz
    7 ’74-’75 The Connells
    8 You Gotta Be Des’ree
    9 Ordinary World Duran Duran
    10 Crazy Seal
11 Over My Shoulder Mike & The Mechanics

You have so many songs I love on these tapes, I think a two-hour drive would be my choice!
Or a copy of each tape perhaps...

It's 4½ years since my crash, and I assumed they were lost in the wreckage! I must say I am not totally confident that the label is correct, for I don't recall ever having "Ordinary World" on tape or CD. I will listen to them in the next few days and let you know how many of them are actually on!

          Tape 2, definitely!

But how is it that a mixed tape has survived that long?! Those who have read Good Omens will of course know this much neglected fact: every (mixed) tape that stays in the car for more than a forthnight will automatically turn into a Queen tape.
Das war ein FLUKE! Ein Glückstreffer!

Haha! Yes, indeed. Maybe it was the fact that I must have removed it from the car that meant it survived!

I think Queen is the only artist that has two tracks in the list, so the process has obviously started!

Your songs are too modern for me, Statman! Brown Eyed Girl is very beautiful though.

I like tape 2 best though they both look great...

I've just had a quick listen to tape 2, side B and it is definitely not what it says on the label! I will report back tomorrow.

You may request a specific track, by the way!

I'm pretty sure that's one of the ones that it says is on there but in fact isn't! (Unfortunately – it's one of my favourites too!)

Good music... But then I am not listening much to music at all. Having to sing at least 5 hours a week myself I have no much tolerance to the noise (even if that's a very good music)
