  • Smoking in a snooker hall post July 07

Smoking in all public places in the uk is to be banned i'm told but what about private clubs such as snooker clubs anyone know?

(Yes I could use google and find out but i'd end up kicking the dog or something as i get so narked with the morons in the anti smoking brigade.)

Hope this doesn't nark you off too much, but:

Yes. The Health Act 2006 was amended when passing through Parliament with the effect that pubs and clubs are covered by the smoke free arrangements and cannot be exempted. Members of staff of private clubs deserve the same protection from the health effects of second-hand smoke as everyone else.
I'm not sure about the reasoning, some jobs have inherent health risks and it wouldn't be setting any precedent if this was just another one of them. I'm afraid I do fall into the anti-smoking (in enclosed public places) brigade though. Any other morons in the house?

Well, i know it's banned up here in Scotland in any place, including snooker halls, which makes them much nicer than the ones i used to play in back in Newcastle. So if the new laws are the same, then probably yeah.

No under the rules there will not be any smoking in public places, my local social club are not looking forward to the rules as the premises they use are on the second floor of the building and they are worried about losing trade

it might work the other way they might get more none smokers in
old enough to know whats its all about, too old to actually do it.....

As much as I hate it, I'm afraid private clubs will also be included. Big fine's if anywhere doesn't comply. Only hope is if you have a club with a private room, where nobody will know, of course!

Blimey them were quick answers, quicker than had I googled.

We smokers are shafted then. Ah well, Suppose I'll find somewhere that'll flaunt the law.

I must say, I'm not smoking very much (about 3 cigarettes a week + some cigarillos), but I've always found it very comfortable to smoke in a pub and have a beer or whisky when I was in the UK, but now... I guess it'll be less comfortable/cosy. :-(

I know I think I'll try to quit!
I've got a feeling one club I go in will ignore the law though!
