  • What Tablet?

Would like to buy myself a tablet but not sure what to buy. Mate has the popular Apple IPAD but I've heard that this is not compatible with Flash Player? Think you need Flash Player to watch the live streaming of snooker?
Can anyone point me in the right direction of a suitable device?
Don't really have any complicated requirements. Just need to be able to 1) Browse Web. 2) Send e-mails. 3) Pick up the Snooker via streaming. 4) Maybe bit of catch-up TV. 5) Maybe take a few photos.
    Thanks

I've got a Blackberry playbook. Very good value for money.

I highly recommend android, to get around the flash problem, and meet your requirements. i suggest either:
          1. Sony Xperia Z tablet (powerful graphics, light weight and water/dust proof), great specs
          2. Asus Transformer prime (a highly all rounded tablet)

I'll second that, cannot fault it in the 10 months I've had it.

I've got a iPad. Great build quality and great apps on it. As the saying goes. You've tried the rest. Now try the best. It's well worth it.

And in terms of streaming stuff and flash support. Most of the streaming companies offer free streaming apps in the App Store.

My daughter has a 1st gen ipad and uses it a lot. If the Flash is a problem, an app called 'Puffin' (free) acts as a web browser, but allows Flash playback on Apple products.

I'd to say an iPad would get my vote all day long......

And like humperdingle said you can run different browser apps so flash isn't a problem, I watch all the snooker shown on livesport.tv I also have the Eurosport player app to cover the snooker shown be them.....

Definitely the slickest bit of kit out there tablet wise imo!!

Thanks for all the comments guys. I've had a good look round over the last few days. In and out of PC World etc asking lots of stupid questions. lol. Like the screen size of the IPAD mini. At 7.9" its not too big and not too small. If the Puffin app gets me round the Flash problem then great. Nexus 7 got good reviews so worth considering as quite a bit cheaper than IPAD and Flash compatible from what I've been told.
Will have a think over the weekend.

One thing to be wary of. Flash is old code.. Its been on the way out for a while now..

More and more websites are switching to HTML5. The 'new' standard ( for now at least ). So if you DID go iPad.. You have to think of the revenue these and a lot of other $$$'s generating sites will be passing up if they do not switch from flash. With over 90million+ sold since its inception, you're in good company

I've got an iPad and a BB playbook. They both rock. BBP is excellent value for money ( and is flash compatible if that's a deal breaker for ya ).

Good luck with your new purchase!

Inoffthered Thanks mate, yeah Flash was an issue for me. I read up on it being "old" technology and how it was being phased out etc etc........and the BBC were bringing out their own software for viewing stuff. Got myself totally confused and hence decided to post on The Forum for help.
Think I'm leaning towards IPAD at the moment even tho its about £100 dearer than the Nexus 7 and Blackberry player. I like the size of the IPAD and I've been told you don't have to mess about with downloading antivirus software. Googled the Puffin browser and that's compatable. Good front and back camera. (Nexus only got back camera).
