  • Sky Anytime on PCs

    Hello,

Just wondering if anyone is using the Sky Anytime service - where you can watch sports clips the day after they take place on your PC. At first glance it sounds good - but read on....

Due to the size of some of the videos available they use a P2P programme called Kontiki that takes up some of your bandwidth. Originally, the didn't tell people about this - also there is no way of controlling the amount of data this will send out.

It gets worse.... You are also restricted by DRM in that the Sky Anytime application can only be installed on one PC. It would be nice if everyone on a home network could look at these clips - but no, thats restricted.

And I have just noticed that I am also being screwed over twice. I orignally installed the programme on a spare PC and then transferred it over to my main PC. Have both of computers on at the moment and was wondering why my internet connection was a little slow...

Guess what KHOST is running on both PCs and from the activity log on the router there is a constant connection to 'relay.vod.sky.com' from two different IP addressess.

I think I might give sky a call and complain about this....

Anyone have any views on this..

Not sure if it is exactly the same (I think it probably is), but I did download something from Sky a year or so ago that was supposed to let me download films etc.

For a while, I thought that it had destroyed my PC. I think my PC kept going on 100% CPU usage with the fan going, and I could not seem to stop it in any way - apart from turning off the power. Each time I turned the PC back on, it would continue so I couldn't really do anything or stop it.

Anyway, I eventually got my PC working - I think it took a couple of days... but, no, was not happy! I finally uninstalled the thing ... or at least tried to - that Kontiki thing (or other things that Sky downloaded to my PC) still kept popping up and I think there are still remnants that I have never managed to remove completely.

Edit - didn't get very far. Instruction 1 says "Go to Services...." What does that mean? Where are Services?

If u want to watch the sports clips then just log onto youtube the next day and it will be there. Since google took over they have become pretty harsh and strict removing alot of sporting videos and suspending accounts for little things! ie my mate took a few vids of singing at football matches an stuff and they said it breached copyrite!!! Im not in favour of ruport murdoch an sky charging scandolus prices to watch sports! we pay the license fee to the bbc they should be using it to good affect instead of having these silly gardening shows on all the time!
