Girl, 2, becomes member of Mensa

A two-year-old girl from Hampshire has become the youngest ever female member of British Mensa.
Georgia Brown, from Aldershot, Hampshire, astounded experts by scoring 152 in an IQ test - putting her in the top 2% of the population for her age.

Psychologist Joan Freeman, who tested Georgia, said she thought the toddler could have scored even higher but needed a nap after 45 minutes of work.

stupidity of the highest order - how can you even want to and why would you attempt to test the IQ of a 2 year old - the world has gone mad. i would like to see the results of the parents IQ tests - bet its about 70 between them!

Who are these experts who are "astounded" by seeing someone be in the top 2% for her age? Don't these experts realise that 2% of all 2-year olds are in the top 2% for their age?

No, it's based on age. There are various tests but the broad aim is to come up with a figure that remains (roughly, and on average) constant over a person's lifetime.

A 2-year old who scores 152 in an IQ test is answering much easier questions than an adult (or 3- or 4-year-old) who scores 152!

It's just top 2% of 2-year-olds. That's why the whole article is so ridiculous.

Hi Dan,

After just logging in now and seeing your thread title 'Girl 2, becomes member of Mensa' very saddened to read that such a beautiful little girl has been subjected to such obvious pressure from overly-ambitious parents, and in such a public domain as well.

I believe it is acceptable to encourage your children, but when it goes into overdrive and parents want over-achievement in their children, this is quite frightening.

Every parent is undoubtedly proud of their child, and excited by his or her accomplishments, and hearing your child's first verbal word at say 6 - 12 months, and their first sentence, is a major milestone in any parent's life.

But there are times when a child, however intelligent, will want to play and act like a child, and I believe growing up with other children is part of their necessary development. If they are constantly concentrating on academic work, and being prodded and probed during countless testings, before they know it, their childhood has passed them by.

And it really just saddens me to the core to see this, it wouldn't surprise me too if this little girl became totally estranged from her parents in the coming years, which is a very sad state of affairs indeed.

Surely they must have tested a lot of two-year-olds to ascertain what the average for two-year-olds is.

So this suggests that rather a lot of two-year-olds are tested, only this one's family decided on media coverage!

lol he has a handspliced cue yes but he prefers a cheap nasty one! - i might record it one day and we will see! - no kidding he made a break of 24 aged 3 on a 5 foot table! - i guess if you have seen a lot of cues etc all your life you have an interest - stunned us when the first time he ever went near a table he potted a blue off the spot from in the d !!! oh and by the way i have never tried to teach him anything about snooker or even encouage him in that direction the interest is purely because i guess he sees a lot of snooker!

Well he's lucky to have a cue maker as a father, maybe as he gets a bit older he'll go with the handspliced cue.
And a 24 break on a 5ft table at 3 years old is incredible, I think you'll have a wee century breaker on your hands before he's in his teens!
