Had a bottle of Crowded House 2005 Sauvignon Blanc on Saturday and it was delicious. It's from New Zealand and the wine writer had on the menu 'if it was a woman I'd marry it'!

The Rocho is an excellent white wine, just for 6 euros!! When you visit, you can have a nice drink on his terrace with splendid views down the valley.
Wallis, Switzerland, excellent whites. Fendant, Johannisberg, Petite Arvine, Malvoisie.
Visit http://www.glenz-weine.ch/Galerie/overview.asp?Kat=9 for some tasting and good wines. Nice family who work hard to get a decent income. I was having a slurp and staff went to get my bottles. Some Austrians came in and thought i was the owner. Well, I pretended I was and we had a laugh for more than half an hour after I revealed I was just a tourist.

I'm by no means an expert on wine, but I've found the works of your compatriot Hubrecht Duijker to be most enjoyable. His book series on French wine gives a lot of interesting background info on different wine estates.
My newest discovery (from tonight actually) was a deliciously sweet white that turned out to be a Ch. Doisy-Védrines. Highly recommended!Comment

Yes, Duijker has an almanac where one can find the best wines in dutch supermarkets and retailers. Not a bit far to get a bottle then?
About sweet wines, would only drink 1 or 2 glasses, as aperitive or desert. Try a Muscat de Rivesaltes if you can get it or Tokaj from Hungary, thats the best sweet wine.
Guess you did not drink it on your own.

a 1995 Chateau d'Yquem Sauternes might be considered better! - actually i bought 6 half bottles of it in about 1998-99 with the intention of keeping them in the cellar..... guess how many i have left! so i went online to see how much it would cost to buy the case now, anyway after i came round i decided to give it a miss!

this is my latest and maybe greatest love - subtle like blackcurrents afterwards yet very complex - i promise you will love it - this is from a supermarket in france 2004 i bought it last summer and i wish i had bought the lot.

Something different from our Austrian neighbours. After the wine scandal they have cleared their stuff and have come up with something good. Gruener Veltiner from Diwald. The wine is very crisp, fresh, grassy and would compare it with a Loire Sauvignon blanc. At 6.50 euro a bargain.
