Its so ironic that he should die in a helicopter crash when he had competed and had brushed with death so many times as a rally driver.Graham Hill lost his life in a plane crash also and David Coulthard escaped death in an air crash a few years ago...its such a terrible waste of life!

    RIP Colin

That is very sad indeed. I have never liked helicoptors and will never fly in one. They are more difficult to fly than a plane and seem to be prone to mechanical faliures which will cause it to drop from the sky instead of being able to glide down like a plane.

My sympathies go out to their families.

that's not 100% correct. Helicopters are able to make much smoother touchdown then airplanes in a case of engine failure because of auto-rotation.

Sorry for going a bit of topic there.

i love watching wrc, so McRae's death was quite a shock.

Hi Vuce, I was refering specifically to mechanical faliures of the main and tail rotors not engine failure.

Markko Märtin didn't die in a crash.. He retired from rallying after his co-driver Michael Park died in 2005 after a heavy crash during the Wales Rally.

                        RIP Colin McRae.
