  • ENGLAND v CROATIA

Last match of the EURO 2008 qualifying comp. No Beckham, no Robinson!

Is this the biggest gamble McClaren has ever taken. I'm worried.

2-0 after less than 15 mins. Hopefully that will be the end of McClaren

        That result is shocking....
Especially if you consider that Austria is allowed to play... Today they didn't even manage to score a goal against Tunesia... Being the host is really Austria's only chance to participate in an EM.

Serves them right. Thank god McLaren is now going and hoepfully a decent manager can come in now. SLavan Billic got his tactics spot on and well done to Croatia.

Only saw second half as I (naturally) watched Sweden vs. Lativa first. Sweden now qualifying for their fifth straight championship, how many can match that!

About England: As always the Britons will blame it on the mananger, as we all know how good the team really are and they are still favourites for the World Cup of course and Lampard is the best player in the world etc etc...

A wake-up for the English people is long overdue.

It is sad as we are having less and less chances of seeing David...

The real tournament next summer will be a Home Nations tournament. England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Nortern Ireland fighting it out.

P.S - Just heard that it's the first time since 1994 that England haven't qualified.

what makes you think we need a wake up call? have you ever spoken to an englishman?

as a matter of fact, i do not know anyone who thinks we are 'better' than anyone else.

applause to sweden, and many others. you're doing what we should we.

as for the manager, the problem with the fa is that they, are and have been, out of touch, and have been for decades.

the manager is s***. or should i say was cos if anyone deserves to go, he does. christ knows how he got the job.

we may not have a deep pool from which to draw quality players, but i know we have enough to do a lot better than we have managed ove the past few years.

and that comes down purely to management.

and before anyone responds with the 'overpaid, underperforming', i agree entirely.

that's not where the problem lies....

Very true, lets face it we've only had one real manager since Sir Alf in Bobby Robson every single one of the others couldn't organise a **** up in a brewery.

I'd be quids in if I'd have gone against my heart and made the bet we'd never qualify for anything with this muppet we have now.

                          disgraceful

im still in shock that we lost - the buck stops at mclaren and he has to go i reckon english football needs a big shape up in the form of jose BUT let's not forget the players have really underperformed and maybe that's due to the pressure of playing for the great football nation of england, but if you can't handle pressure as in any sport you lose!

Yeh john, as paul parker was saying the other week, this could be the kick up the backside english football needs. The players need to have a long hard look at themselves. They have let the nation down badly. Im a huge football fan and this will be the first time in my life watching the game, that i wont see england at a major tournament. Its really sad.

I think the next England manager should be Alan Titchmarsh then he could grow some grass for quality English football to be played on...When they were taking many, many years, and spending millions of pounds building the new Wembley stadium, did nobody think to put in some drainage? That brand new pitch was a disgrace... hopefully McClaren will give the groundsman a lift to the employment agency.
