  • Seeking Scots local knowledge

I know there's a lot of Scots on this forum. Some of them living in or near Glagow. Any one live in or near Greenock or know anything about it ?

Unfortunately for myself and the rest of us in Manchester our jobs are all relocating there. I'm currently considering whether a move may be worthwhile.

much of that is spot on, or useful

the surrounding area of Greenock is beautiful, though im not a great fan of the actual place, but then if its only work thats there, then . its not too far from Glasgow City Centre too, so IMHO its more to do with actually wanting to relocate or not, rather than the place.

feel free to PM me on specifics about the surrounding area

Contact Scottish Snooker chairman Stevie Baillie on scottishsnooker147@yahoo.co.uk

He has his finger in every pie north of the border.

        Thanks for your replies folks.

I know what you mean Semih about actually wanting to move being the main thing. However, some things can help sway a decision though. For example whether a town is prospering or depressed and full of 'no go' areas would affect whether anyone would want to risk buying a house there. It would be no good to buy a house there, loose a job there (no such things as jobs for life) and then not being able get another half decent job there, and being unable to sell the house to get a job somewhere else. Its not financially worthwhile for me to rent there.

Plenty of pictures of Greenock (and, indeed, all of the UK) here:

greenock is a hit and miss sort of place - some good some bad - most of scotland the same actually - once you learn your way about its a nice area to live in i would say pretty similar to where you are now.

you might find this useful. http://www.gspc.co.uk/ that would cover all properties for sale in the area - the system is different here with estate agents, remember often here you have to pay over the asking price.

while id expect, but not be sure youd want to live quite close to your new place of workd premises, Glasgow Centre is only about 20 minutes drive away, and even if you didnt want to live there, or close to it, theres places in betweeen that are as good or better than Greenock IMHO. Kilmacolm, or some leafy places in Inverclyde are 5 or 10 minutes drive away, and are better than both Glasgow Centre, or Greenock to live in id expect.

The advice of estate agents is a good one. Greenock, or EA in Inverclyde will give you lots of information on the phone or by mail, with advice on renting or buying, resale values and expectations for those particular areas, as most will do both. if your going to try it, and are giving yourself a time scale, best to rent if your trial period is less than 15 months, due to fees etc....

all MHO. oh, and good luck whatever happens mate
