1 Andrei Roublev - Andreï Tarkovski 1966 (available 1969) extraordinary beautiful slow going in black&white ... and colour ... almost mute.

    2. Aguirre, der Zorn Gotte - Werner Herzog 1972. Outstanding performance by Klaus Kinski; mesmerizing music by Popohl Vu

    3. Citizen Kane - Orson Welles 1941. An absolute must for a photographer. The way the images are built and presented is ... outstanding!

    4. Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain - Jean-Pierre Jeunet (2001). Absurd, funny, cruel and so, so true!

    5. Le Pianiste (The Pianist) - Roman Polanski 2002. Not to be forgotten ... where intolerance can lead us.

    6. La vita è bella - Roberto Benigni 1997. Humour as the ultimate polite form of dispair ... a so much love!

    7. American Beauty - Sam Mendes 1999. On what is important in life, what is beautiful, what is right ... so much is in the eyes of the beholder.

    8. The Purple Rose of Cairo - Woody Allen 1985. If you are dreaming your life more than living it ... this one is for you! Devastating and tender. And extraordinary performance by Mia Farrow.

    9. Kanashimi no Belladonna - Osamu Tezuka 1973. no comments ... erh, don't watch with your kids.

    10. Young Frankenstein - Mel Brooks 1974. Totally disjuncted! The right therapy if you feel down...

You seem to be an elitist Monique

A couple of unusual choices as well, Young Frankenstein especially. I thought that was hilarious. Peter Boyle was about 10 feet tall in that and could thump Jan Verhass good

Have you seen any Bresson films?
