RIP. He was a great champion, maybe one of the most talented chess players, but he also was a difficult person.
I think we all should remember him for his chess skills and not for all the bad things he said in his last years.
"There has only ever been Alex Higgins, myself and now Ronnie O'sullivan who play the game the way it should be played with such excitement - I know the fans love it this way" - Jimmy White

Perhaps the things he said about the US were not that far from the truth. On Dutch tele there was a fantastic broadcast about him telling how great he was and how sad at the same time he didn't share with the world what a great chess genius he was ... it ended with the words 'Poor Bobby'
I saw that going differently in my mind

A great player; one of the most talented ever. What a pity he did not defend his -72 title and kept on playing at the top level. The Russians would not have won half the titles they did without him quitting Despite his difficult character I'll remember him as one of the outstanding geniuses in chess.

Meanwhile, I came across a lot of obituaries in various newspapers that state a few headlines of his life, always including his commentary on 9/11 of course,
but the simple question why he turned away from the game which was his obsession remains unasked nowadays.
