BBC Cutbacks - 606 should go.

I was reading an interview with David Attonborough on Ceefax, and he was commenting on his disgust at recent BBC cutbacks, that are affecting much of the stations output, due to them not being allowed the Licence Fee they want.

They are cutting back on documentaries & are going to show more repeats.

I say - if the BBC are short of money, shut down the farce site that is 606. We have all been on there, and having been involved in a discussion with moondan on the content of that site, it has got me thinking that surely it is baggage the BBC can afford to lose. It is a bile-filled cesspit of venom, full of abuse with almost no redeeming features.

I don't know how much that site costs to run, but surely it must be a bit - moderators, upkeep, etc. That money could be spent elsewhere.

Anyone agree with this?

theres a hell of a lot more they can do than that.................firstly why do you need 2 main presenters presenting the snooker alongside Steve Davis and John Parrott......suerly if you employ davis and parrott as pundit come presenters they should be able to step up to present if Hazel cant make it.................................

chances are Parrott will never play at the masters again............so get him to present not Ray Stubbs..............

theres things like that being done at the bbc..........................

at wimbledon they have Andrew Castle a TV Presenter these days comantating.....why not have him presenting Today at Wimbledon and not John Invardale that way they kill 2 birds with 1 stone.....have a comantator and a presenter in 1.................

I don't think that closing the snooker part on 606 would really change a thing concerning the Beep budget woes ... For the other sports I just don't know if they are run better or not.
Also I t is my opinion that this forum is not the place ... to discuss the way another forum is run and what you think of other members there. Not that I disagree with what you say ... but ... you should post it there, on 606, for the mods and other members to see, not here.
Of course if some bring their ways and abuses in this place ... I will react. I did it already occasionally and will do it again if I feel fit.

Monique - I can't post it there; i closed my membership down. And even if i did re-join, it wouldn't get published would it? They won't accept the truth as it is presented to them.

Maybe it wouldn't make a huge difference to the budget, but it wouldn't hurt it either.

but i want more people there to debate with seriously....over the last month it has got stupid beiond belief with these multi names rubish being blocked because you say something they dont agree with............and beginning of this week someone logged on and was posting using my name and was being abusive without reason and at one point racist.......he might not think what he said was racist because it was a poke at malta and the italians but it was............so i agree to some extent that its a riot there.....

thats why its important to have proper snooker discusions on there and not fanboyish and biased opinions........and people like you have a lot to offer......................

wild - I appreciate your kind words, and i agree - i DO have a lot to offer. But i posted on there & the F1 site as well, and both were rife with fanboys (Lewis Hamilton or Ronnie) - oh yeah, that was another accusation thrown at me, that i was obviously a schoolkid on half-term, causing trouble. Why? Because i said i didn't like Lewis Hamilton.

Laughable and indicitave of the mentality on there. If i could join and be assured that i could air my reasonable opinions without being abused or threatened with banning, and that the clique was got rid of, then i would consider. But these things will never happen.

As it happens wild, i've had a look at your member page in the last few minutes - my advice? Quit that dump & stay here. For instance, the example you used of someone posting under your name - who could be bothered to do that? That is the kind of trolls 606 attracts. It wouldn't happen on here.

I don't think this place is 100% perfect by ANY means, but it's 100% better than 606.

Cave ... I think it would be published.
In particulat if you stress on what you expect from the forum - proper snooker discussion - and why the way it is now prevents it to actually fulfill its role as a place for debate. If you expose your point of view avoiding any personal attacks, without naming any particular poster ... I can't see why it would not be published. And be assured that some members there would support you: you are not the only one who's fed up with abuses and insults.
I would do it for a start ... I'm not afraid of rough rubs.

I'm a member of four forums ... all completely different. And enjoy them all for what they are. Diversity is salt of life.

Well Monique, if you are a member of 606, you are a credit to it, judging from what i've seen from your contributions on here, and i mean that.

Posters like yourself, wild & moondan all have decent things to say - but they are lost in the pool of venom that is 606.

I'm not going to re-join just to post this thread; i said much of this on 606 when i was a member & it was met with deletion / abuse.

I remember when i said i was quitting - most people said "you won't be missed", then continued with their torrent of abuse to the next victim.

I'm not going back until it's sorted - or, better still, shut down. I will drink to that day.

in the beggining i was a bit lost and didnt know the set up .......im getting in to it now and i will continue to have discusions with you and others on here.......

but i wont stop with 606.............the more places i can talk snooker the better...

Maybe the reason ferret has been increasing security recently is to prevent the 606-antics on here just in case the BBC do decide to save some money.

Cave, off the top of my head I could name thirty great posters on 606, ten of them came here this time last year, seven of them didnt post because they found it too quiet and in crowdish.
You added much to 606 and you were no shrinking violet yourself, you did some great threads, as you do here. One or two were not to my taste but its a forum of views.
I only tend to post if I have a view on the subject or if I think a poster is being needlessly offensive to a player or poster. Other than that a healthy forum should be free speech, give as good as you get as long as it is justified and is in keeping with house rules.
Too many attack the poster instead of the subject, they do as much damage to the forum as the idiots.
Forums have their highs and lows like everything in life, just as many problems here mate, their slightly different but the end result is the same, it sets a poor tone.
