Thanks, it was quite frightening, the building shook and the timbers "shivered" - beginning to think it was just me!

I felt it too - was quite scared. I am on top floor of block of apartments and the whole room rocked back and forwards and telly went off! Cat shot off my knee and hid behind settee. Was quite annoyed as I was playing online poker at time and had really good hand but comp folded me cos I had ran out of room in a panic and never got back in time!!

I heard nothing here in London. This is such a boring city!

Hope everyone is fine and no serious damage was done to your homes ...

We had one in Brussels in 1992 and it was impressive (why do they always choose to happen in the middle of the night? ). There were some funny sides though: a colleague, a guy "with a temper" , refused to believe it could be an earthquake (not in Belgium!) and filed a complaint to the local authorities about those heavy trucks running down his street at night ...
                        They never replied. How careless!

That's probably cause it was one!

The first reports said it was 4.7, now I read it was 5.3 R...
Annoying and scary for sure, but as long as there's no damages it's nothing to worry about. We're having earthquakes more powerful than this every day in Greece lately!

I guess Austrians would be really shocked if there were an earthquake of that strength. I have never personally experienced one, they are not at all common in Austria.
Greece on the other hand has always been a rather active area in this respect, so people probably got used to it over the centuries (not to mention Japan )

It was quite strong in Manchester - I didnt know what the hell it was when it hit last night - so put it down to a freak gust of wind. (Earthquakes are so rare here i didnt even think of that until i saw the news this morning)
