  • Players To Take A Stance

Just reading the Sunday papers and read a report the the players are holding a meeting to discuss the current state of the game. Also stated was that WS has given the players a form to fill in with regards to the way the running off game can be improved ??. (i don't think many players will put their names on return forms) lol.
What do the TSF members think,
Is a players union or body a good thing for Snooker and will Snooker survive in the way it run at present ?

I think all 'employees' moan about the organisation they work for. How this, that and the other is being done all wrong.

When it comes down to actually making positive suggestions for improvements though, that is never as easy as being negative and critical.

In other words i think they should face the same tough choice as the rest of us either stop moaning or get a different job.

the main problam with the WSA that they are in effect the Employer and the Trade Union.....so theres a lot of conflict of interests going on......

in snooker over the years theres been a lot of mismanagement and i think the players has the right to tell them when they not happy with things and so both players and the Administration can move forward together for the best of the sport and the future of the sport........

Is there really anything to moan about now? The game was in a sorry state a couple of years ago, but the number of tournaments and the amount of prize money seems to be creeping back up.

The biggest problem in terms of snooker's immediate future is its dependency on the BBC for TV coverage. The Tories have made it clear that when they get back into power they will abolish the licence fee, and I bet the snooker will be one of the first things that will get cut back. They will keep the WC - maybe the Masters - but the the Grand Prix and UK will get axed. The BBC charter runs until 2016 so after then who knows? They used to have a couple of tournaments each on ITV and Sky, and Channel 5 was showing some interest a few years ago so they need to rekindle that interest from the commercial channels.

I think it's good that players have more input in the governing of the game, like the women pool tour in USA, which has been very successful.

That is not the same as saying the members of the boards should be former players. That, I think, is a bad idea.
