  • Banner advert Question

The Play89.com banner has two spelling errors and a grammar error and I just wondered if its going to be corrected? Just curious.

You mean, if it's going to be corrected?

Funnily enough I noticed that this morning too.

I was told in school, in writing it should always be it is where in vocabular one can say it's! Unless my English teacher was pants!

The cue in the banner is quite irritating as well!

        !
I think that is a bit of an over generalisation and over-simplification as it depends on the tone and context of what you are writing or saying, but to get the message over to a class of kids it's sort of along the right lines.

well, it is a couple of decades ago. Furthermore as you know I am in Holland, where an English teacher would try to drill the pupils in his ways and mannerisms.

Your English teacher was pants. Of course you can use it's in written English. Not for the possessive pronoun though; as in The dog wags its tail. Were you educated in Holland? Funny, I thought the English language was generally taught to a better standard over there than in the UK.

The cue in the banner is a little irritating but you can poke Jimmy in the eye with it if you're bored!

Good for you. Me too. I brew my own as well which is far better than anything made commercially. My ventures into wine-making leave a little to be desired so far though.

Getting back on topic. There's an apostrophe in don't.

I've just been told by my girlfriend that you speak better English than I speak Hollandish. What can I say?

I was reading a newpaper article about a taxi driver who could not get a licence renewal after answering a grammar question incorrectly relating to apostrophies. On the councils website the newspaper pointed out their use of it's was incorrect in the context it was being used and the word its should have been used. The word its is in the dictionary and can be used seperate to the word it's when not describing something which belongs.

I'm not anal really I just didn't know that. I'm terrible for missing them out and always type wont and dont instead of won't or don't but its more lazy than anything!
