Thats why Federer is more of a genius as he can win on any surface and conditions.
I said Fedor, a MMA fighter that matoski brought up lol. Who is fighting Tim Sylvia I just found out.

I hope he get's mauled! But I'll save it for the MMA forum...woops I didn't.

Anyway I think we're sort of forgetting that the word genius isn't too open to debate, it's in the dictionary and the meaning is there lol. Of course we will debate our own definition in this context, but it's too tough to call.

A genius is measured by their body of work there are only 2 i can be sure of and that is Mozart and Da Vinci.
He was able to do it from the start, but got borred and started to use it more, after the problems to start with he felt that he was unable to use it fearing that he would be accused of taking the mick, This ended when Reardon talked him into using it more and explained what a gift it was, So Reardon pushed him intop using it as we see today.

There are far more than Mozart and Da vinci , did these two put a man on the moon, save millions with medical science or give us the lives that we live today ???

It is absurd comparing Ronnie with Mozart, Beethoven, Van Gogh, etc. There was a television programme on recently about a man who could work out pi to about 100 decimal places! He also learned to speak a foriegn langauge in a week! He actually went on a talk show to speak to a native speaker after learning his first word a week earlier! That is a genius!

I think the point about Nadal is fair as he is right handed and yet has learned to play tennis left handed and is the player on clay ever! That makes him more superior to Ronnie in the genius stakes but neither of them are in all reality.

This whole thing is a laugh, A genius is often regarded as so for differant reasons and at differant levels. Ronnie O'sullivan isnt a genius compared to people who have developed science and medicine or do something that enhances the way that we live. You cant compare O'sullivan to the collective group of geniuses who put a man on the moon as that is what they are. You cant compare Ronnie o'sullivan to a surgeon who delelops opperations to save hundreds of lives.

Ronnie o'sullivan maybe a genius when it comes to playing snooker and around a snooker table which i cant decided if he is or not. I would say that he is an artist and the way he plays shows an amazing talent and style and he has something special that has not been seen in a snooker player before or at least to that level. To me i wouldnt say that an artist is a genius, i feel that someone needs to be multi talented in many differant areas and be able to succeed in many areas at the greatest standard.

He only needs to practice with his left the same as he or anyone else does with there right, to practice cueing and the game as a whole and that is where the clever part comes in which is something he has just been born with. The same way as i am Right handed but play snooker left handed it wasnt my choice its just the way it is.

Ronnie isnt a genius, he is just amazing at what he does
mate believe me he has had to practice a hell of a lot to be able to play that well with both hands......

he was born with a gift for snooker he was not born with the gift to be able to play with both hands........

as kids everything is awkward then you learn how to do everything from walking to talking to eventually playing snooker.....you have to consentrate on 1 side or the other or things would get 2 complicated....Ronnie learned it Right handed and moved on to snooker Right handed then that came brilliant and practicing got boring he desided to throw in left handed shots and that came better and better......

Absolutely right. It is all practice. O'Sullivan wasn't that good left handed years ago. He has had to practice and practice. Most people, with the right amount of practice can achieve a similar standard with their less natural hand. Aside from that there isn't anything genial about any of his play.

                                Genius is a subjective opinion

Roger Federer is a genius. Rafael Nadal is an extremely hard worker and a grinder all credit to him, but this does not a genius make. Rafael Nadal is also a Gentleman and a credit to his sport, as is Federer and as is Tiger Woods in Golf, who is both a Genius and a Gentleman. Roger Federer, Tiger Woods and Rafael Nadal cannot be compared in my opinion to Ronnie OSullivan, who may be talented with a Snooker cue in his hand but when you consider his often outrageous behaviour off the table and in the arena (lewd comments, assaulting officials, walking out of matches, etc, etc, etc.) he does not even come close to being in the same league as these 3 distinguished SPORTSMEN and GENTLEMEN of world sport. Hendry was and is FAR more of a credit to the Sport of Snooker than O'Sullivan. O'Sullivan may be the World Champion, but being so good and talented that you can thrash everybody else does not make a true Champion in the sense of the word that is used when describing Federer, Nadal, Woods, and Hendry. The way they conduct themselves both inside and outside the arena puts them in their own league as true champions.

I think it's a scandal. We have to reach behind the seats and share an ice bucket so, whoever is listening, I would like my own ice bucket. We used to have our own bucket. I don't know what's happening - are we scrimping on ice now?
