Think you forgot who won the uefa cup (Zenit). Furthermore, the 3 teams you mentioned are nowhere near Holland, Italy or France. Portugal and Czech are bygones and Croatia is a good team, but not superb. To have beaten England does not mean they are top draw, as anyone would have knocked out the overrated England team.

Though I now tend to give Portugal a chance

Also I can't believe you think Sweden and Russia are one of the favourites!

I think you forgot who won the Champions League. Holland are a very average team at the moment who struggled in qualifying whereas the Croatians are a fantastically organised team but may miss Eduardo and are incredibly underrated, Portugal have possibly the best player in the world and Czechs are always there or thereabouts.

Portugal are looking like a great side...after beating turkey 2-0 in there opening game. I can see them doing very well with lots of talent and not to mention the greatest player in the world imo Cristiano Ronaldo

I dont have to remember who won the CL as England did not qualify. . Says enough me thinks. All the teams are so swamped with foreign players, England cant even put a decent 11 and have to select pensioner Beckham. Think you are forgetting, Kuyt (Liverpool Cl finalist), Van Persie (Arsenal), Sneyder, Van Nistelrooy (Madrid), and most of the others are playing in top competitions. I wont be surprised when they go out first round, as Italy, France and Romania are the strongest teams anyway. Its a lottery in that group.

Kuyt is a very average player and Van Persie has been injured. Van Nistelrooy is past it and they do have a poor backline. I hope Romania do go through as along with Croatia I have backed them.

Back to the initial thread. I nowhere stated they will win it, just merely mentioned most of the teams in C and D will beat teams from A and B. Van Persie injured, yeah, well I dont mind. Van Basten was injured in 1988 and we all remember what he achieved. Tony Adams still remembers it pretty well!! (As well the german and russian goalkeeper)

The winner will come from Spain or Portugal. The Portuguesers have the biggest Boss in the tournament in Scolari and that could make a difference

                    Oh my, Paul!
I decided to believe you are joking and I just don't understand it because I am german.
                    But...
if Holland will drop out against Italy, France and Romania they won't deserve to be European Champion because they aren't the best team.
If Portugal will beat Italy(just for example) in the final they will be the right European Champion because they beat the best team of the second half no matter what happend in the group stages.

Your group not even played a match and you already search for excuses. (Also it seems you are searching for excuses if maybe Germany becomes the Champion. That's a bit wired!)

And yes, we have seen two years ago how easily Holland beat Portugal.

Anyway if Germany goes out (why Lehmann, why???) I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

There are a lot of people that voted Spain! I hope that you´re well

I´m from Spain and Spain never...I repeat...never has won a quarterfinal match in any professional competition in his history

                      Sounds nice!

It´s all decided after yesterdays evening match Everytime Germany won the World Cup or the Euro they won their first match in that tournament, so why wonder who will win it? Though I wish we could give C. Ronaldo a german passport
btw. I´ve never seen a player who didn´t celebrate his goal but as Podolski made 2 goals against his home country I can understand the situation he was in. Nice gesture, I think.

                                This is football!!

Yes, I did never expect this to happen. Not saying they will win it. could even lose the next 2, but at least we got 90 minutes of great play, compared to the atrocious stuff before this match. Just look on the 606, they are all over the moon there as well!.

ps. before anyone starts moaning, the first goal was not off side as every player is in play wherever he is. So the italian defender behind the line counts as well, being in play. (Rulebook Fifa and confirmed on ARD and head of referees in Holland)
