go croatia.... congrats to spain and first place in group d... btw just for info, on monday when is croatia-poland, croatia will play without their first team
Another 'made up' result between 2 friendly teams? I still remember that one Sweden - Denmark match. And both teams still kinda pay for what they did to Italy. Something to think about

I'm pretty sure the Sweden - Denmark game wasn't fixed. Both teams fought to win. When Sweden made the equalizer to go 2 - 2 though none of the teams seemed eager to attack, but that's kind of an natural reaction + it wasn't much time left in them game.

Of course, I don't believe there score was actually fixed by a signed agreement but even then the match was finished off just like a friendly match. (Of course, Italy created problems for themselves too, no doubt about that.)
I'm not that really bothered with croatian match, IMHO germans will still go out from the group, together with croats. More interesting how Holland is gonna play against Romania. If Romania wins, both world cup 2006 finalists are out

My guess is Holland won't play their best team but they will still go out there and play their game which means lots of offense. I'd be very surprised if they just laid down flat and let the romanians dominate.. But we'll see.

hmm, man but croatia-poland is match where croatia is 100% on first place, and poland is out... so this match cant affect on second team in group because match between austria and germany are playing for second place...

In the Turkey v Czech republic match tonight both teams are locked on the same number of points, have the same goal difference, goals for and goals against. If it finishes in a draw this match is apparentlty going straight to penalties.
Does anyone else think this is very strange. In previous tournaments if the same situation crops up it's normally a coin-toss. I understand that the toss of a coin isn't an ideal way to settle a result, however, I don't think this rule is too fair....
The reason for this is that there could be two teams in one of the other groups that have had a draw between them after 1st or 2nd game and then play different teams to finish, if they then finish on exactly the same points, goal difference etc then it's not possible to have aone-off penalty shoot-out because the team could be 200 miles apart. You can't exactly turn up just for penalties either the day after you've had a match.
So, can anyone clarify what is going on with this? Would penalties take place in both situations??
No if they play different teams they use the qualifying coefficients from the World Cup 06 and Euro 08 qualifiers (ie. average points per game) to decide who goes through. There was a story about this on the official site. At any rate, what a game last night. Was about to head off to bed and then Turkey scored. I'm thanking my lucky stars I watched that game till the end.

Sweeden vs Norway match in 2004 was the most disgracefull football match ever played. They coldbloodedly fixed 2:2 draw.
Don't get fooled arround with Portugal, Holland and Spain. The champion will be Russia.

I agree it was probably the worst football match played since the dawn of time. Austria v West Germany in 1982 World Cup was a marvel of fighting spirit in comparison. Also, I'm sure that's why they (Sweden) waited until overtime before making the last goal, those clever crooks!
