Agreed (and would quite happily have a bet on him at the Olympics and the US). Had Federer played like he played in the last 2/3 sets earlier on he would probably not have lost. He'll be back next year and wont have glandular fever to recover from either. Certainly made for great viewing

Yes too right I called Nadal due to his desire to win, like all sportsmen and women its the desire that gives you that edge you need to win, thats why in my mind all great players that have won many titles have a limited life span due to their lack of desire due to their victories, and the wanton desire of those in need of a victory to play just little bit better when the pressures on. Or something like that if you know what I mean.

I don't even like tennis but caught up in it - it was a remarkable final (far better than that sorry excuse at the Crucible a couple of months ago!). I was worried for Nadal because Federer seemed to be getting outplayed but got back on level terms - his serve saved his bacon a couple of times in the tie-breakers. If Wimbledon had tie-breakers in the final set he would have won it I bet. I lost count of how many match points Nadal had but what a sensational match! I fancy them to share the next few - there is no way Federer won't win at Wimbledon again since grass courts are his forte.

Great sporting rivalries and opponents of comparable strenghts is what produces great matches and get the best out of the sportmen. That's why the Crucible final was disapointing this year ... the climaxes came in semis. We shouldn't complain, semis were great!
Anyway I don't like tennis and usually don't follow it at all ... this was an exception. says it all ...

I did pick Nadal to win this! Just think his tennis is a complete new standard right now over the rest players including Federer, technically and mentally and of course physically. But he should get tired at last for the US open now, maybe have to rely on Djokovic to shut off Federer again.

I would agree - Federer has still reached a couple of finals this year so is still the best player off sustained quality, but Nadal will be the man to beat at the US Open. It's hard to believe that in the last three years only one man other than Federer and Nadal has won a Grandslam title!

Nadal is a less technical player than Federer so it seems to me that he has to put a lot more of physical effort to be able to level with Federer. Could be that Nadal's career will be shorter and perhaps less brilliant than Federers because of the huge amount of energy (and risk of injuries) he has to put in it. But let' s wait and see. Anyway it is proven again than men tennis is of a higher quality than women tennis. Overweigthed players like Serena, Kutznetsova , Safina, Bartoli etc.. have their position in the top 10. Apparently you don't have to be a complete player to reach the top in women tennis. Some power in your arms is sometimes enough..
That' s why it is a pity that a player like Justine Henin stopped or that someone like Mauresmo is falling back in the rankings . They brought some technical play and more elegance in the game.

i dont agree,,nadal has won the last two grand slams beating roger in both,in fact the french open final was a lesson in clay court tennis for roger, and nadal is 5 years younger and is a far better tennis player than people seem to give him credit for ,,you need more than strength and energy to play on grass , roger would have beaten anybody else but came up short against nadal,i think this will be a turning point for both players,,,plus i think fedderer has a mental problem with nadal,,,but time will tell

Rafa has two Slams, two MS events, a couple of other events compared to Fed's minor wins in Halle and Estoril so no doubt who has been the better player this season so far. Djokovic has been better than Fed as well, despite his early exit here.

Fantastic that Rafa won it, absolute class act both on and especially off the court, delighted for him.

At the moment Fed isn't playing as well as we know he can, while Nadal is playing the best he's ever played. It was close at Wimbledon, but Federer in top form would have won it. Nadal has to prove this is the new pattern rather than just a blip to rightfully claim the number 1 spot.
