    OFF-TOPIC POLITICAL RANT ALERT

Being closest neighbour to the USA... more than 80% of all Canada's commerce is with that country... we follow their elections closely.
Most Canadians, and the polls suggest most Americans favour Barack Obama.
This is a Godsend after 8 years of Bush. I expect most of the members here would breath a sigh of relief as well especially given the world-wide economic crisis his policies helped create. That McCain, truly a "Bush" on steroids, and his moronic VP candidate, Sarah Palin, could become leaders of the United States is chilling to say the least. I post this link so that those who may be interested can read why.
That Obama has taken the "high road" in his campaign and not used any of this damning material is a testament to his ethics and foreshadows the kind of change he speaks about and which is so sorely needed in the USA and for their relationship in rest of the world.

Sarah Palin is really awful. McCain is too old... so Obama is the only chance, and Joe Biden is his ace.

Ordinarily a candidate of Obama's calibre would win it, but you can't underestimate the racial divide in America. I think most Americans prefer Obama (good age, good morals, high intellect) but when it comes to ticking the box I have my doubts that the majority of Americans will vote for a black man. I really hope he wins but I think given the racial dimension to this election the polls have to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Hi Noel, I think its very important for all mankind that we have a fair but strong and firm America. Im 62 and have little doubt that thanks to america I have never had to wear a uniform. America makes mistakes but for the most part the world is lucky to have it as a friend. Ive never viewed them as an evil empire. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but it really is the domain of the tea and coffee set who have an opinion on everything but the answers to nothing.
I hope there is a change but only if it doesnt make our enemies stronger. Most of us view the world through the news channels, from the comfort of a world made safer by the might of America.
I just hope whoever wins has the strength and courage to do what is right, and not what might just be popular in the short term. Its a very dangerous World Dont let the tea and coffee set delude us. Our childrens, children, depend on it.

Is this the same Obama who thought there were 60 states (rather than 50) in the US on TV, the same guy who enjoy talking about the "distribution of wealth" like a communist?

Never took you as one of the Bush camp Moondan. I think its very debatable that he has made the world safer. The unjustified invasion of Iraq has stirred up anti-western tensions to much higher levels than they were previously.

His recent threats agaisnt Russia for flexing its war muscles just made America look like a hypocritical bully..

Did anyone watch the San Franscico Chronicle interview in which Obama said he would cause coal-burning power plants to go bankrupt? As president, Obama said, he would purposefully cause energy prices to "skyrocket."

I'm not *that* interested in the American elections, but I have to agree that Palin is a disgrace. Here are some interviews with her:

Dannydog, events not of Bush's making took us all on roads that he would rather not have gone down. Like I said hindsight is wonderful thing.

I dont fear America, but I fear many other groups and countries.

Anti american feeling didnt arrive in bush's time, fools have lived longer than that.

I think Obama will win, although I am not too sure if it is really such a wonderful thing as far as the economy is concerned. For example, I just cannot see how he could offer tax cut and fulfill all his other rosy promises when the US is so much in debt. Taking money from the rich to fuel the poor is just not going to work. Last time I checked, America is not a socialist country.
Personally speaking, I would not blame Bush for all the problems we have today. For example, when the gas price was so high, Bush did propose to allow oil to be extracted along the shore of America, but it was shot down.
I think if Obama is elected, the US dollar will likely go up a bit, his being elected should have a short term effect to boost the economy. But how he and his government react to this boost will determine how our econmy look in the long term, which is what i am more concerned about.
Edit: Hope he was not serious about bankrupting the coal plants, since some like 50% of electricity power comes from coal plants. Energy price will definitely go crazy.

When its all over lets just hope america can afford to protect the free world as it has done for the last 90 years.
The popular vote is usually fools gold, it never delivers what we thought it might, the trouble is many never learn the lessons.

America gives more to the third world than the rest of the world put together, Obama could just change that.
Dont get me wrong, I want him to win, it would send a positive message to many, but if he follows his program, maybe america might not be able to afford the protection and the aid.
When or if he gets in, he will grow up and reality will bite. Hopefully.
The free world does not need a fortress america, many americans do, their sick of the ignorance and ungratefulness.
