Well that's nicely setup, he will beat Nadal tomorrow, then end his French Open hoodoo by beating Nadal in the final to surpass Pete's record. Then he will be on such a high that he will destroy everyone at Wimbledon and just top it off with the US !:snooker:

I don't think Federer could possibly retire having never won the French... which would vault him into "Best Ever" category... let alone never being able to avenge his thrashing there and at Wimbledon by Rafa.
We know he has the skill and experience... if he maintains his physical and mental fitness... he will prevail....
Go Federer!

I voted for Federer before the tournament and i think he'll win in 4 sets. It's easier to hit winners earlier on a hard court, so that suits Federer's game.
As for Federer winning the French Open - i seriously doubt it as long as Nadal is injury free. I even think he won't reach the final this year.sigpic

But if Federer has been so dominant on grass and Nadal has won Wimbledon. Logically there must surely be no reason with Nadal being equally dominant as Federer on clay the other way around why Federer can't win the French.
Federer is clearly the more deserving of the career grand slam than Nadal based on Federer's superior record in the 4 grand slam events overall.Last edited by david16; 1 February 2009, 03:09 AM.

I am a big fan of Roger but atm Nadal is the best of them two. He has a moral advantage over Roger and he raised his game very much over the last years and that makes his the best player in the world.
Apart from Nadal, roger had another thing to cope with and that was Sampras record and it was clear to me, at the ceremony, that he desperatly wants to equal and overcome Sampras, and that showed....."There has only ever been Alex Higgins, myself and now Ronnie O'sullivan who play the game the way it should be played with such excitement - I know the fans love it this way" - Jimmy White

Considering Nadal is 5 years younger than Federer you can't really make that statement as by the time Nadal is Federer's age he may have already over taken Sampras' record.TSF World Champion 2010

What a match. Even though Nadal only won in 5 sets, it felt like a bruising with Federer unable to stay the distance and breaking down in tears. I think he lost it mentally in the 3rd set when Nadal had to receive treatment on his thigh, but still showed little sign of weakness. Federer must have thought that was the moment.
The question is now whether Federer can win another slam at all. Nadal is only 22 and is hungry for more titles. I think Federer will eventually win his 14th, but may have to do it at Wimbledon this year before it is too late. Nadal will win the French and probably US Open later in the year to complete the set.sigpic

I think Federer’s tears meant he was realizing that he is not #1 anymore and that he probably won’t break Sampras record.
A couple years ago, the big question was ‘when will Federer win on clay?’. Now, not only it didn’t happen, but he also lost he’s domain on grass, and now in synthetic court, so it’s expected that Nadal will win in the US Open too.
Federer’s best change now is if Nadal gets injured, and that’s not a difficult thing to happen, given the way the Spanish pushes his body with that style of play.2008-09 Prediction Champion
