I like the reason its not a black plate due to the blemish in the wood used for the butt spice. Surely you would disguard it and use another piece?

I would've thought so. Why not just splice over it lol. Who knows though. I reckon the fella is making it up. Robert likes using the really fancy stuff and lots of splices to bump up the price of his black plates. I.e. the thuya burls and snakewoods
