Hello, I have joined the forum to help an elderly friend out. She is downsizing and imminently about to move and whilst clearing the house came across her fathers old snooker cues. I thought as a way to lower her outlay to the removal company I would try to sell the cues on for her.
Firstly can I say that I have no knowledge of snooker cues and have only ever played the game itself a hand full of times (very poorly too may I add).
The first cue is a one piece cue and I believe the cue is possibly made from Ash with a Rosewood or ebony base/butt and some other wood inlayed into it. There is a small plate screwed on the base with an image of Sidney Smith and words "Tournament Snooker Cue". From reviewing the images on an old cues website the design of the cue looks identical to that manufactured by a company called Peradon in circa 1940s.
The cue is 4ft 8 5/8" long weighing 16 1/4oz. The tip appears to have a diameter of 3/8" and the base a diameter of 1 1/4". There is a stamp/pressing in the wood which appears to say 17oz
i do not know if it was machine or hand spliced.
I have rolled the cue on my Lino floor (it's the only potentially flat smooth surface in my home) and the tip of the cue does wobble indicating that the cue is slightly warped.
The cue is in a hard black case which I believe is its original one which is either made of plastic or a Bakelite material.
the 'Riley' 3 piece cue is in a soft tan coloured 'faux' leather case and there are 2 butts of which the smaller one is a light brown colour and longer one darker coloured. There is a sticker on the shorter butt that has the numbers A53070 7950 CHINA. There is no sticker on the longer butt but the lacquer where the brass fitting is appears to be crazing. I have rolled the longer tapered end of the cue on my Lino floor and the tip does move so I can only assume it is warped in some way.
the tip of the cue to the brass joint is 3ft 4 5/8". The longer black base/butt is 2ft 4 1/2" long and smaller base/butt is 1ft 4 1/2" long.
The cues are in Sheffield and I can post. I do not know the value of the cues (if they have any at all being slightly warped) but someone with the right knowledge/skill could possibly straighten them.
I do have photos of the cues but don't know how to post them on here.
