i agree with Caesar, by following your dreams. I don't come from money, am 35 years old and have finally bought a house that is going to fit my table.

The houses in canada are fairly inexpensive compared to england, plus they're much larger here. It was a little challenging to find a house that can fit a full sized table but July 15th is the big day. I purchased a BCE Westbury table about 6 months ago for $1800 (us funds), and its been sitting in my office at work.

I am in disbelief that i am going to be able to play anytime i want...its truly a dream come true, just hope my game improves! LOL

I also looked at houses where i would have to remove "the bearing wall" and put up an I-Beam in order to have the room 16' x 22'....The beams are the expensive thing approx $22 foot? and a little drywall and paint to fix it up. At my new house i have to move the furnace and the water heater but other than that small task, its perfect.

I even considered building a steel shed outside if i could not find a house that would fit one on the the inside

oh another expensive thing (aside from the actual table) is paying somebody to move it, new cloth, all the tackle, the balls, a good light, cues for guests, new pockets etc...so i think i'm about $4000 in after everything...but if you think about it, its not that much money cuz i probably spend $160/month at a club plus the odd drink, travel time etc...the table will pay for itself it 2 years, and it will still be worth more than what i paid for it because i think i paid under what its actually worth.

Its kind of sad because the games died here in canada but it seems as though its slowly starting to make a comeback, or maybe i'm just wishful thinking...

Sorry for the long post, just very proud of my table and love talking snooker with all of you....at times i feel like i don't deserve to type this much because i only have around 30 posts...but i'm trying over here! lol

anyways as Ringo says all the time...peace and love, peace and love

After reading the prior post I just wanted to share my story, I will be brief.

I never saw a snooker table until I was 18 years old, I heard of snooker a few times, or the term snookered monre often, but I didnt know what snooker was, I grew up in cental California in farm counrty 80 miles east of San Frisco, we had very little $$$.

When I first went to a pool room at 18 years old, almost 19, I saw a 10' American snooker table (yes the numbered balls too) and you know what? With out anyone telling me and never seeing anything like that before I thought the numbers were just horrible and un-necceasary(good instinct is what I call it ) I didnt see a 12' Table until I was perhaps a month short of being 19 years old, a year later I heard of Steve Davis, didnt know whart he looked like for the next few years, That is how far removed America is from the rest of the world(I dont like America FYI) for those reasons. Back to snooker I'm almost done.

I knew when I saw snooker it was for me, period. perhaps it was the grand size of the table?, the scoreing? the balance of offence and defence within each frame? probaly a little of each. I wanted to be a snooker player(not possible in America) I didnt have the $$$ to even visit the UK, so I played America snooker until I moved where there wasnt a table, all the time wanting to own a proper snooker table, I have had several pool tables but they require less space, It takes a big house to have a snooker table fit and bigger so it looks natural.

I took deliverly of my Riley table last year, had a year to wait to get it set up(construction delays), its up now, i'm 42 it was a long road. It was worth the wait. nap cloth, the whole bit.

now the bad/good news I might be selling my house so bye-bye snooker table, but I will perhaps have the biggest paycheck of my life, Hello UK!!!! I'm so done with America. Can you imagine living on a island until your 18 and never seeing a snooker table?, I was in my late 30's when youtube came along for me to ever see pro's play snooker THE FIRST TIME EVER and my life is half over. America is such a isolated, ignorant, fat ares's I gotta go....

thats my story. well some of it, but never give up on your dreams and the persuit of those dream.

I would not have minded dropping in on you when I went to watch the Hatton fight against Mayweather in Vegas Fatboy. We tried like hell to find a place to play but all we got was that stupid 9 ball rubbish.

Good luck with the house sale pal. You obviously deserve your success and I am only joking. If you do move to the UK I am sure you will get another snooker table...or club even...take care and keep knocking em down:snooker:

Might have trouble selling the tables now that they've been dropped as the official tables for World Snooker. Be interesting to see what the new potentially Gold Legged Star tables affect the next season.

if this is true, ouchie...sell your stocks in Riley while you can!

When looking at tables, I came across these same tables. I believe they're made in china and sell for around $7000 u.s. dollars, therefore a fraction of what a Riley costs...think these tables are used in some tournaments in china? not sure why Rileys were dropped but they must be ****ed! no?

                        wowsers....wtf?

what is the reason for dropping the Riley table? I know nothing about this transaction at all, maybe you guys in england can fill us in?

the first thing that comes to mind is the loyalty of world snooker? Has Riley not been very good to them? no idea in canada....i'm sure it comes down to either ego or cash like everything else

I think it may have been that it was an offer that they couldn't refuse from Star in China. As the article says, they have been used for China tournaments and Matchroom events and World Snooker obviously thought it would be a better table.

It'll be twofold. Firstly they'll be throwing money at the WSA for the privilege, and secondly the WSA will see it as a way of promoting the Sport in China further.

yeah not sure about that one...I think a table could only be so good, especially with todays technology? over the last 30 years they've changed tremendously but i don't think there will be as much change over the next 30 years. A table can only be so flat! lol

Being from canada, owning a riley from england would be the cats ass...for one its used by the pros and most importantly its made in england. Understand cost vs demand and all that S$$T but all the high end brands of clothing would not be the same if you could buy them for a fraction of the cost? but i guess thats why i'm not president of the snooker association...

As a hetro man, there is no sum of money in the world for me to perform fellatio on another man....therefore in my opinion there is no offer good enough to sell your soul! lol

part of snookers mystique is that everything is "England" ...but maybe i'm turning into a stubborn old man, but i don't think its that cuz i'm only 35...

anyways eat a d.i.c.k. snooker assoc
