  • Old A.E.Ions and Mac Chambers cue for sale

I have two more nice cues to offer:

    1. Old A.E. Ions cue - about 30 years old

Ash with rosewood butt and a top splice in the design of a "Riva" boat deck.

It is an old school shaped cue, slim tapered with a wide butt end. A bit whippy and full of life.
Really a good playing collectable. Very rare with the old badge.

    Specs: 57.7" - 16 oz - Tip 9.2 mm - Butt end 32 mm

    270.-- delivered to UK

    2. Mac Chambers cue - Ash with ebony and roswood multi spliced

The cue is quite stiff but not rock hard.
A classy and subtle look, the splicing is visible at the second glance.
There is a story behind that cue that the seller told me. I'll post it later.

    Specs: 57.3" - 16.5 oz - 9.5 mm - 28.5 mm

    170.-- delivered to UK

More pictures also in hires avaialble on request...

And this is the nice story the seller told me about the cue:

I thought I would just drop you this email expressing the history of this cue.

Mac Chambers was well known in my snooker circle as a cue doctor - he didn't really make cues, he only fixed problems with them. When I met Mac, he was retired and was an ex precision engineer, like myself.

We have many chats on engineering and the very few cues that he did make, he had photographs in his workshop of many professionals holding his cue with trophies, he was very proud of that fact.

I asked him if he would be interested in making a custom cue for myself but he was reluctant because I believe that he was coming to the end of his association with snooker. Another topic of conversation was six cues in a glass showcase in his garage - each of them had a story - the two I remember was the very first cue he made when he was actively playing and said that he would never sell that particular cue. But nevertheless if I offered him the right money he would sell it.

The second story I remember was a cue - one of a pair of cues - made on commission for a young and upcoming player named Ronnie O'Sullivan. As you can imagine, my eyes lit up and I asked him how much he wanted for the cue. He said make me an offer, which I did at £500.00 and he gave me the cue. I don't really know when the cue was actually made, but would suggest, it was made in the early 1990's. Since owning the cue, around the Wolverton area, where I played it was well known to other snooker players.

As you can imagine, it has been tough for me to let it go, hence the long email, but now Christian, the cue is yours - I hope that you will treasure this cue as I have for many years!!!

Now that I have decided to sell them it feels a bit sad...
But I have only nine slots free so if there comes a new cu another one has to go.

Both cues are really unusual crackers. The Ions is fantastic.

ahhh but think of what you are saving in initial layout for cues bought you now have to sell

or get some glass some wood and stain, some felt and some woodglue
