*edit*
True Andrew, so far Dave at craftsman has straightened everything I've thrown at him.. I'm picking up one of Thursday that was like a fishing rod at full bend, so we'll see if I've stumped him with this one!---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I bought the Camkin maple about a year ago from ADR via ebay, I was away at work when it arrived so I asked the wife to have a look and she said yep looks like a cue to me!!! So I left positive feedback on ebay (first mistake) I arrived home and inspected the cue rolled it on the floor and thought WTF it was in a awful state. So I thought yea I fooked up here so I will send the cue to Mike Wooldridge Master Cuemaker and he will sort it for me at my cost!!
Mike Wooldridge's actual reply:-
mmm, we have a problem with the camkin....
for starters, its not maple. i've seen this wood a few times on old cues, in fact i have one here myself
i've never really known for sure what it is but think it could be hornbeam
anyway, this 's' bend you spoke of is NASTY!
problem is, it is not just in the shaft. otherwise i could do something with it.
this one has a major bend under the splices which is impossible to get out.
so, i can only do what i can with the shaft but if you roll the cue it will wobble like mad cos of the lower bend.
you want me to carry on and try to get shaft as straight as possible?
All I'm saying is people beware of old some old cues as they may be buckled. Don't get caught out as I did.

All i can say in ADR,S defence is that he has always been truthful when selling a cue on here or via ebay..maybe if you had asked for a bit more info on the que in question then you might have changed your mind and not went through with the purchase ! and with any old cues sold on ebay then i think it is all just down pot luck if you get a bent or warped cue....hope you have learned your lesson instead of maybe just jumping in...Last edited by warren132; 30 March 2010, 10:57 PM.Not played for 3 years and itching for a game....11-3-2017.

Yes mate I did learn a lesson. But had the cue been accuratly described I definetely would not have bought it.

If you wanted a piece of snooker heritage, buy an old one and dw bout(and in fact expect and relish) the kinks, dents, flat out warps and buckles of it. If you wanted to know it's condition, you could (and should) of asked. Ignorance is a terrible thing and has cost you dearly. Like you said, you've learnt your lesson.
No mate I got the point about vintage cues and wanted a cue that had dents and character to it. I already had a MW custom cue which is spot on.
The Point YOU'RE missing is ebay requires that you accurately describe the item you are selling. ie vintage Camkin maple cue.
When yes it was vintage but it wasn't maple it was hornbeam so I was miss sold on wood description for starters. Then if it said slight kink or minor bend that would have been fair enough also, but no mention of an unrepairable bent under the ebony splices.
I had a bad experience which hasn't cost that dearly but when I seen this post I thought it only fair to warn potential buyers.
If it has a buckle, say so. etc etc
