  • eBay Original Cannon Match Cue

I have a cannon match from the 1800's that I purchased 30 years ago. There's a stamp on the side that appears to spell Cook. I was wondering if anyone would know if William Cook used a cannon match and what you think the value of the cue might be.

    Thanks

i am 100 % sure its not that old, i have several here - i would imagine the stamp is somebody marking it as theirs - the problem with value on yours is it needs a new front splice and that costs money and would hammer the value down.

        Thanks for your responses.

I believe the cannon match cue was originally made by the wielding cue company in the 1870's and then bought out in the 1880's by peradon. I think that was when the logo was stopped being used until years later. The cue is pre peradon. My time lines may be out by a bit but not much.

I sent the pictures to the Snooker Museum and asked if they could determine the age of the cue. The cue was purchased from Willie Thorne and he relayed it was from the 1800's. I'll post what the museum determines.

            Cheers

well i can tell you its later than that. its the wrong shape. the butt would be double the thickness as for weildings they ran from about 1910-1955 ish - i would have to check and i believe cannons were at the end of that time and then after they were taken over by peradon they were made up until about 1970 - i will give andy hunter a call and see if he knows.

so andy agrees with me with a bit more detail - cannon match cues with the badge you have were made from the late 1920's though to the 60's there was a cannon match cue made just after the first world war but it had a round badge and never really took off. the one you have there i would say dates from the late 1930's.

I hope they are from the 1800s - I have three of them! All plastic badges as opposed to ivory which you would expect to see pre-1914 (definitely 1920s or later).
