Ok, Mike "the Howard Hughes" of cue making, let me ask you directly then:-

    1) Do you have the matured 25+ year old oak timber I have?...Yes or No?

    2) Do you know what the best taper is for oak, because it sounds like you've tried already?....Yes or No?

    3) Why do you keep fitting 3lb's of brass into the joints and ends of those weak sh*tty ash cues you keep producing?..is it because you want players to be blinded by all that "bling", so that they won't notice how crap your cues is?

No actually, that last statement is totally unfair, and I would like to retract it. Mike, I have no idea how well your cues are made, and whether or not they play as good as mine. One thing for sure though, they will be worth a lot more in scrap...lol

    Potter
This just gets better and better lol.

Potter I'm sure mikes not threatened by you and your cues.
Why do we not hear or see of people using oak?
There must be a good reason behind it

congratulations - proves you're an idiot then doesn't it?

criticising the 'playability' of other brands when you haven't got a clue yourself.

and as for playing as good as mine. the playing public will decide.

however, i suspect you have already alienated your possible greatest allies, i.e. these forum members, with your ignorant, uneducated, ill conceived comments.

About the taper, I am sure a totally conical taper is not the best taper no matter whether it is maple, ash, or oak. Especially oak, which is very stiff to begin with.

Mike I would have thought that Hemingway would have been a better description of your nature, dark and brooding, rakish, bit of a mis-understood genius, but then what do I know.Potter please dont alienate yourself.I have previously stated how brave I think you are for trying something different and difficult in the economic climate we have found ourselves in but I have to agree with Mikes comments regarding forum members as allies.Keep them onside,it will help you in the long run.

Thank you Trevor for your comment, you won't believe how impressed my wife was.......ok so she wasn't.....but I am!. It's nice to think one of the Worlds leading cuemakers thinks I talk some sense at least.

Just a short add-on for the benefit of Potter : did you notice I called Trevor "one of the WORLDS leading cue makers"???....that's 'cos he is and perhaps you should bear that in mind when writing derogatory comments about him on here to push your own products.

So come on now fellas put the handbags down and lets get back to positives please!

                Good evening, gentlemen.

Just scrolling through some old cue threads and discovered this debate on the potential merits, or otherwise, of oaken shafts. I was wondering if the pictures were still available?

I remember the cue, it looked very nice actually, not too different to ash, but was slated as being unsuitable for snooker

The second cue I ever owned, and one which is still treasured to this day, was sold to me as sporting a dark ash shaft but I later suspected that it might actually be crafted from oak. It cost me eighteen month's worth of saved pocket money (eighty pounds) way back in July 1981.

Funny you should say that as the original poster is still here with a different name... Can't imagine why he changed it.

Was it the constant chatting absolute garbage and then being thoroughly rebutted?

What did he change it to?

                                Good afternoon, gentlemen.

Here are a few photographs of my thirty-five year old cue (the one on the left). I'd be keen to learn if any of the knowledgeable folks on here consider it might be sporting an oaken shaft.
