While i am finding it difficult to find regular work in my "normal" job, to stop myself becoming bored and to keep job centre happy i took a temporary "Christmas casual" position with the local Royal Mail sorting office for the 4 weeks leading up to Christmas.
I can tell you the number of parcels we were sorting each day was something like 100,000 Sorting office was running 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, and with the heavy snow the amount of parcels just being stored awaiting delivery was phenominal.
Its likely your stuff may still turn up when they dig it out from the pile.
Ps invest in Amazon/play.com shares parcels from these people were relentless

1st Class Mail you can Claim upto £40 so that Covers Most Little Items.

I do 1st Class Recorded or Special Depending on Item or Items and Who I am sending too!....If Less than £5/£10 then Send 1st Class Standard.

Problem is There are a Certain % of People who are Not Faithful and Say....Haven't Received it etc etc.....So the 72p Stops this as they have to Sign for It.

Its Worth Spending extra 72p for Recorded to Some Addresses

Well i wont be sending anything normal post anymore . I,ve got the receipts as proof of first class postage so i,m hoping i can reclaim the £130 that i,m out of pocket . I,ll just fill in the forms and see what occurs .

you can claim - up to £32 i think - assuming that

1 you have a postage reciept - i rarely queue for that!

2 you can prove the trade value of the item also by reciept.

3 you have the kind of free time to fill out all their forms to claim

The way it works is 100 times the value of a 1st class stamp which is currently 41p so £41 compensation
(Possibly going up to 44p in April, so will be £44)

I normally insure for the cost of the article. Is better to be safe than sorry. They can be a pain in the neck at post office.

Have had several things go missing when being sent from Germany and the people (DHL) in Germany have given all sorts of excuses. Once because they said the customs over there do not allow certain things to sent and the sender wrote to the customs people and they said was ok for sending. Another excuse was that I was out and they had delivered to a house diagonally from my house, which was a lie and they never come as late as they said.
