people keep using this argument of older cues are better but 9 years ago parris' set up was exactly the same as it is today. Maybe about 12+ years ago his best stuff was being done and a lot of it by John but I think people use this old term just to bump up the price and reputation of their own cues, particularly when they come to sell it!

I always wonder if your cue is so good why sell it, I see people saying its the best cue I've ever played with, best grain you'll ever see etc etc so then why sell?

I bought the cue and i bought it for a high price simply because it was an older cue. (as youve said if your cue is so good why sell it) i havnt mentioned that it is the best cue i have ever played with and thats obvious because i bought this cue havnt really got on with it and have chosen to stay with my old one until the new one arrives. the cue is really nice and is in great condition and im sure someone else will get on with it but not me.

The reason i bought this was because i needed a bit more length on my cue and were told older cues were better but seems as i dont get on with this one and i need a cue that is a bit longer i have decided to buy a cue to my own specs.

I am open to offers and the cue is listed at a price where people will ask to buy for cheaper and then i will get close to what i really want for it. If you really think its too high for people to try and get it down again could you pm me how much the cue is really worth as im just trying to get back what i paided for it

          Cheers Jake

In my experience older was better if it was more than 10 yrs old, because I think that's roughly when JP ran out of the stock that had been seasoned for more than 40 yrs, and cuemakers were saying they couldn't get 'English ash' any more. Although many good ones were still being produced it was definitely more of a mixed bag after that. I do not agree that 7yr old JP's are generally better than new ones, because I think the top makers' ash has improved somewhat since then.

And you never know what's been done to an old cue unless you can check it out in person...
