Hi Neil, how did you get on with those threaded joints?

Just to let you know I will be keeping these on e bay forever now for the all the budding cuemakers in the UK! I have sold all of the original 80 sets I had, and have now had another 600 made.

I will be launching the new QKlik shortly, I am just ironing out a few production issues, pop in next week I will show you version 13!

Just to let everyone know I have done a bulk price for the threaded joints I am selling on e bay here is the item number:

              290582717701

They have very popular with the budding cue makers on the forum and beyond, sold some to France this morning! Either buy from e bay or contact me directly.

Just some news about the new QKlik threadless joints, the first batch was finished today and I will be getting some sample cues made this week. I will get a few pros to test them before they come to market in a couple of months but initial test have been very positive.

When I have the cues I will show them to a few of the forum members that I know for there comments to be put on here.

A quick question for you. At the recent Canadian Championships a top player and ex-pro, Tom Finstad from Alberta, had a new 2-piece centre-jointed cue but with a big difference. It had no metal in the joint at all and according to Tom feels just like a one-piece.

The difference was the bolt and socket at the joint were made of some kind of high strength composition and it was as strong as metal but also seemed to transmit the vibrations quite well as the cue didn't feel like a 2-piece at all. The composite was configured with a 1-1/2" threaded bolt coming out of the butt and a matching socket of the same material in the shaft. No idea what the length was inside the butt or shaft however Tom mentioned the cuemaker (now retired unfortunately) was able to hit the concrete floor with the bolt that was sticking out with no apparant damage to it.

Unfortunately, this was a one-off cue but I was wondering if you've ever seen any material like this or even any cue joints like this as I couldn't find them anywhere on the internet and Tom didn't know where the screw and socket came from. Tom was thinking of giving up the game and selling this cue, however he wanted $800 for it so I passed!

                Thanks, Terry

There is no reason why snooker cue joints can't be made in plastic. I have seen a bakerlite pool cue joint on the net but there are lots of more modern plastics that might be more suitable.
I have the 1Klik joint profile in plastic but have never tried it in a cue!

Terry, perhaps it was some kind of phenolic material? What colour was it? Is there any texture to the material?
What is the name of the cue maker who made it?
Stan, good luck with your venture. Are you still working on your extensions and joint for snooker cues? How's your pool cue joint going?
Looking forward to seeing your new product. I still have the extension from you and it is still working very nicely.:-)
                        Thank you.

                          Hi Airin

I have modified the locking angles to create this new product (QKlik) it now only locks on one position, and I have managed to reduce the tightening torque required so that it is a lot easier to use than my previous product (1Klik) fool proof even! It has taken 14 prototypes to get to this stage, but it is a great product. I will make a pool cue version shortly.
The new extender will follow, using the new profile, I am hoping to be ready for the China Billiards Expo Shanghai in September, but it is going to be tight!

Stan and Terry, it would be awesome if such center joints became available. I was half thinking of asking Viking cues to have a go at fitting their joint with phenolic collar to one of my cues as they don't seem to contain as much metal in them and I quite like the quality of their cues.
                            Tear up that manure-fed astroturf!

                              Airin:

I think it was some kind of composite phenolic material and it did have a texture. It was gray in colour. I never got a good look at it and I wasn't able to try out the cue, but Tom Finstad knows his stuff on cues and he says there is absolutely no metal in the cue at all plus the actual joint is small enough in diameter that there was still a bit of wood around the edges in order to get that wood-to-wood contact, somewhat liky your 3/4 joints.

Tom didn't give me the cuemaker's name as he says he has retired and he even sold his cue lathe to Tom. Apparently this was a one-off experiment the cuemaker did just for Tom as a final project.

However, I like the idea of having a cue joint which has no metal in it at all but is just as strong and also, most importantly, transmits the vibration closer to the way a one-piece cue does. I've heard titanium would do the same thing but it would be really expensive and is also hard to tool I guess.

Tom also said he was going to quit playing and would be selling this cue, but he wanted $800 for it, which is a little pricey for me just so I can get an idea of what the joint is like. Of course, I've heard Tom say that many times before especially after he's lost a match so I expect to see Tom at the Canadians again next year.
