wouldnt worry me too much either tbh, no workman will get every single splice perfect every single time on every single cue...

You would expect near perfection for the prices you pay for an Ultimate! £600+ for in essence a piece of wood...

i dont know abt the rest...but for me, the cue is only as good as how well i can connect with it (must have that FEEL)...

i once had a parris classic which was imo one of better cues i had played with, crazy amount of power with min throw ...but i lost it when the club closed down. After that nothing came close to this special affinity i had with the cue...its not the brand , its just the luck of the draw when u pick up that cue...

Which is why i never buy a cue no matter how branded or cheap without first testing it. Of cos the chances of getting a good cue with H&O, TW, MW,Parris etc is higher than the rest of the unknown brands.

                my 2 cents

I don't see the reason why you are getting so upset Andrew.
I know a bit about cues and play the game to a decent standard.
I think I should have put it this way-

I remember one member swearing by one cuemaker saying they were better than the next bla , bla , but when i asked him what cues he,s owned or tried from other good cuemakers to come to that conclusion , he could,nt answer me .

I think that is the case with a lot of people .
I have owned and played with around 70 cues out of which 5 Mike woolridge,6 Peradon ,2 Mastercraft,5 Omins,3 GBL,3 John Parris,2 Craftsman and 40 odd Mastercues. It's hard to argue that I haven't played with enough cues.
For me the most and the only important part in the cue is the way it plays,It should be Solid,Stiff shaft, well balanced with a little bit of flex and responsive.
I have made 16 centuries so think I play to a decent standard and know a bit about the game and cues.

It totally depends on how good that particular piece of ash or maple is, irrespective of the brand but you tend to find these fine qualities in almost every cue you buy from top cuemakers like Woolridge,Parris,Trevor white,Robin cook,Tony Glover and few others.

I would correct myself and say that they are not better then the rest but one of the best.

jp ultimates imo have gone down in quality over the past years a friend of mine as number 480 odd 1 piece ash and its unbeliveble pure quality the shaft is out of this world owned from new around 8/9 years ago. i bought 925 from new in 2006 1 piece maple and that to was a great cue but the last few i have held numbering from 1300 to around 1600 have been nothing special a bit dissapointing if honest for the price.

not upset at all but its the kind of statement that creates the myth that they are the best! a cue is a cue regardless of who made it and i can name at least a dozen other makers that can do a least as well.

So how much do these will hunt cues normally go for if one was to be sold today? With the number on, and similar to the one in this thread? Curious....
