Just comes down to if a shaft fitting that description can be found as people can be very picky about the grain.

Having said that, 350 GBP is a great deal regardless. It is probably a great playing cue, too.
I dont think he is doing such a bad thing by trying to sell it instead of getting a refund. This way, the original seller gets to keep the money and someone out there will have the chance to buy an Ultimate cue for less than the high prices we normally see.Last edited by poolqjunkie; 5 January 2012, 09:45 PM.

Relax Guys....
It was my intention tonight to send a long and detailed response to all the messages on this thread, but I decided to sit back, relax and enjoy....
Possibly tomorrow night I may have the energy to post a full response setting the record straight...but don't count on it as I have yet another busy pool table restoration day, so we'll see...
Night all.....

Yes, the Ultimate was almost 500 GBP in the 90's. Actually price has not incresed by too much.
The extra money was charged for the quality of the shaft, the way it was planed and tapered, and also the option of selecting the pattern of shaft chevrons, stiffness of shaft, plus the cue will be made to measure, with exotic wood of your choice and you are supposed to be getting John Parris's best work (precise splice work and such). You can also ask John to select a shaft and taper it to a stiffness that fits your style of play--if you do not like the cue, you can bring it back for alteration or a replacment. In a nutshell, an Ultimate is supposed to be in the same class as a black plate cue. It is a custom cue made to the highest standard.
If the customer did not say he needed the top chevrons to be entirely below the ferrule, it is acceptable to have it through. It is also possible that the cue was cut shorter or had things like that done to it. It depends on the customers some like to see the ferrule below and some like to see it through or do not mind it either way--it is a custom order so it depends on whatever the request was.
In my opinion the shaft on that Ultimate looks very nice, I would not say it is an inferior shaft in the cosmetic department.
John knows how to build a great playing cue, he is one of the best cue maker of our time.
